Terry,
I heard from Fran La Greca and she is now coming. Her Aunt Jeanette LaGreca De Sena is coming too. Fran is getting in touch with Rosie Marsella to get her to come as well. This is wonderful!
HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE ! Who continues to make a sauce each week loaded with sausage, bracciole, meatballs? I do occasionally (but not so loaded). My son Thomas put in a request last night for Rice Balls (the ones with the peas, chopped meat and sauce inside). It’s a rainy day here in Florida, so why not!
Love to all of you.
ANTHONY,
HELLO and hugs from Thomas & Julia Grace to you!
Call me, I had my first dream about Jeanne last night. Terry helped me out this morning and decoded the dream for me (I love her).
Remember Joanne Mandone’s mother? She had the white hair, very skinny and she used to know all those remedies using stockings, etc.
ANTHONY OLIVA MY E-MAIL IS [email protected] i would love also to hear from you on my e-mail cell # 646 591 5444 🙂
Elaine Ceely…..
I never knew that my father in law was your brother’s Godfather…
the then he has been gone since 1972…
Marie Elena
As usual you remember so much, and always bring back memories…I had Sister Amata in the 6th and7th grades, and I absolutely loved her, I found a picture of her and I taken by the statue of Mary in the church grounds….I remember being outside on the block and all the nuns would be playing ball behind the gate of the convent, remember we used to watch them thru the fence and wonder if they slept in their habits ???
Yes, Mrs. Twigg. Never saw her smile. She ran the school like an army. Always wore a suit.
Elaine – Wow, I can’t believe this site. It is great finding people who you are related to and lost touch with. I hope that you and your husband will be at the reunion. I have some old pictures that I found when my dad passed. I will bring some of them with me. You must know Marie Lecci. She was my grandfather’s other brother, Joe’s, daughter. Do you or anyone else know how to get in touch with her. She has a daughter Debbie and a son Gary.
Santina – my mom passed away 1 1/2 years ago and my dad passed away a year ago. I know that if he was still here, he would have loved to attend the reunion.
Marie Elena – Sorry I don’t remember you. Maybe if I see you, it will bring back some memories. My grandmothers name was Gussie. Unfortunately, I never got the chance to know her since she passed before I was born. I do remember BUG. Hope to see you at the reunion.
Re: the music. I have Flower Power cd from TimeLife. covers the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. will bring them with me.
Hope everyone enjoys the holiday weekend.
Janet
Anthony Oliva
Just saw your 5th grade class picture….omg ….Joyce C
Christine: Is Terry a Shrink, or is Lori, or is it Franny Bruno?
Give Tommy and Julia a hug from me. I’m going to NJ on Tuesday to hang out with Paul and Geri, they don’t know yet.
Joyce Castolado, LOL-I’m not sure you should be bringing that photo to the re-union..That was the year I was in the closet the most. Can you tell from the photo, how shell shocked I was from dodging the slaps, kicks, and having holy water poured all over me, by those insane Nuns?
Let’s not forget, I did make an effort at redemtion, I was an Alterboy!
Remember: Prayer + Study = Success? I just got around to using that formula in my life, and it acually works.
I’m going to the beach, have a great weekend everyone.
I attended St. John’s but taught at PS 146 and we moved that year to PS 10( in 1968) or so.
Sadly, Mrs. Woods passed away while I was teaching there. She died at her kitchen table at around 63 years old. At that time she had been teaching Reading. She was still wearing that type of shoe.
Mrs. Boyd was the Assistant Principal and then retired.
Mrs. Sarcona was the 6th grade teacher and at one time was part-time Assistant principal.
I was hired by Miss Twigg but she transferred and Mr. Paul Weiner was principal.
Mary Ann, you were so lucky to have Sister Amata for two years. I could actually see the nuns playing ball in the backyard from my apartment window over the Gas Company. Sister Joseph Anthony was so much into their games.
Janet Cavallo, your parents lived on the first floor over the Gas Company on 5th and 22nd while I lived with my parents on the top floor. We went down to see Lynda there and my Mom helped out a few times. Once when we knocked your Mom was sitting on the new washing machine trying to stop it from vibrating so much…it was shaking the building. It was so funny. Then they moved down 22nd Street.
Thanks Twiggy. I would love to get some pictures of the reunion. My email is: [email protected].
TWIGGY,
we think alike. i was going to tell lucille ball to send her email so we can send her photos.
ELAINE,
i am sorry i was thinking of rose panica from 20th street i think she was also a leader. we had alot of girl scout leaders. BUT the ladies that stuck in my mind were the wall sisters. they were like men and they were very mean.
NOT LIKE OUR BROWNIE LEADERS MRS. EMMA TAYLOR AND SOME OF OUR MOMS THAT WE HAD TO CALL MRS ANGELO MRS HORAN ETC. NOT MOMMY. thoae were the best years.
ROZ,
i wrote about the BOZO show and HOw i hated him after we were on..he picked that pretty girl clara from 21st stReet to drink the choc. milk. i was skinny and had a perm that probably looked like an afro with straight bangs. omg MRS. LILLY fro 7th ave would give me my perms and burn my head every time. WHAT WAS MARGIE THINKING. between the nuns, the mean leaders and the perms i really do need therapy from RICHARD LETTIERI my class mate. WHERE ARE YOU RICHARD???
ELAINE DOES MRS PANACHOCH REMEMBER TOSE 2 SISTERS.
father d he was wonerful.
carolyn german is she married now to deleo. one of the otto girls remarried deleo. i loved ottos.
MARIE ELENA,
i think i should be asking you if MRS. PANACHOK remembers those mean girl scout leaders. i am getting you and elaine mixed up. SENIOR MOMEMT.
i do remember the plays our moms put on. i still see annie schiralli, my mom and other all dressed up singing BY THE SEA BY THE SEA BY THE BEAUTIFUL SEA and they changed the words or something and they were really funny. alot of good memories with our moms and st johns.
TWIGGY AND EVERYONE,
LORI JEAN got an email from MICHAEL SCHIRALLI HE WILL BE IN LA CAN NOT COME TO THE REUNION. TOO BAD. he is really responsible for all of us connecting.
ANTHONY – NO LORI AND TERRY THINK THEY ARE SHRINKS BUT ACTUALLY NEED ONE AND I THINK IT IS FRANNY WHO IS OR STUDIED TO BE ONE.
LIKE THOSE CAPS GUYS, ISN’T IT ANNYOING AND TOO BIG!
Hi everyone Santina Frankie died in Sept of 1986, and Billy does remember you he said to say hi. He was asking about your brothers. When is the reunion?
DEBBIE BRODBECK SICIARGO
Debbie, I grew up on 20th Street between 6 & 7th Ave. I was on 19th St. a lot after my friend Margie married Louie Trocchio.
As for the animals, I also get dead ones out of the road, and have even gotten to a few who were able to be saved, instead of run over again & again. I know, we are members of a group other people would think are coo koo, lol. You are a kind person to take care of the animals, Janet
Marie Elena Giuttari D’Angelo
Hi, my brain is getting old !! Are you related to Elena Devine?? I also worked in PS 146 during the move as a Para, Janet
just realized that this site has the wronf email address for me. It was my poor typing ability, lol. It is [email protected]
Hi…
Christina Oliva….Yes today I am making a big sauce with sausage, meatballs and bracciole…I usually don’t make it every Sunday in the summer, but my youngest son is leaving for college tomorrow and this will probably be the last good meal he has in a while lol lol …..
Also, does anyone remember Sister Ann, she taught the lower grades, my sister Jolene stayed in contact with her for many years…MY memory of her (unless I was dreaming) is when the Mets won the world series, I guess in 1969 and we all gathered in a class room to watch them…Please someone tell me if they remember this … Judy
THE SHIRTS UPDATE: From Wikopedia
The band members, some of whom had stayed in the music business, reunited twice in the 1990s to play benefits for CBGB, which periodically suffered tax issues. Efforts were made to reform the band, which included early auditions with Golden, who had established a career in film and on stage, and two other female singers, Caren Messing and Kathy McCloskey, who had worked with Racioppo in another band. Golden ultimately decided not to join the reformed band, and Messing and McCloskey together took the female lead. The reformed band first played for the public at CBGB in May of 2003, and continue to perform periodically.
In 2006, The Shirts recorded their first album in over 25 years at the studio Mike Thorne had opened, produced once again by Thorne. The album, Only the Dead Know Brooklyn, was released in 2006.
Judy Giordano-Banjany You just made me very hungry, lol. Janet
Judy Giordano-Banjany When I read your post, I swear, I thought I smelt sauce cooking, even the sausage, Janet
Anthony Olivo, one more memory jog that I do not think was mentioned. The apartment you lived in on 4th Avenue, if I remember correctly, did not have a bath tub or shower. The kitchen sink served that purpose also. I seem to remember that being your family. I also seem to remember a shower curtain or something hanging from the kitchen ceiling.
ALERT ALERT,
PLEASE anyone coming to pay me i Staten Island…BRING CASH.. I LOOK LIKE A BOOKIE GOING AROUND WITH ALL THESE CHECKS.. THANKS
one more thing Debbie is bringing a can of coffee instead of soda. CAN SOMEONE bring another can of coffee and oh just call me 718-9802467.
WE DONT NEED 100 BOTTLES OF SODA I AM SORRY FOR BEING A PAIN IN THE A–.WE NEED OTHER THINGS ALSO LIKE SUGAR ETC. THANKS TERRY
Being a new blogger, I’m not sure if I should blog or email, but here goes…
ANTHONY OLIVA,
How can you go to the beach when I have nothing but sand to look at here in the desert? Do you remember the time we had a car accident in a beach parking lot somewhere on the Jersey shore. I think Jeanne, Twiggy, Geraldine and my sister Marianne were in the car too. It was just a small fender bender thank goodness.
MARIE ELENA GUITTARI D’ANGELO,
Hi cuz,
Awhile back, you mentioned our fathers working in grandpa Negri’s Bar, but you forgot to mention that Aunt Caroline and your mom, Aunt Florie worked there too. I’ll never forget one day when your mom was bartending – Rita and I got into a fight and the customers broke it up and threw me out of the bar. I’ll never forget what your mom said afterwards, “I wouldn’t mind the two of you fighting, but you don’t fight like girls, you fight like men”. Poor Aunt Florie was always getting hurt breaking up our fights.
DONNA PALMA
Donna I know we hung out together but my memory is awful. Do you remember me and Donna Serrino, a couple doors down from you. I think the three of us played together. Were you there the day Donna and I were playing hide and seek in the church courtyard. Father D’Amato saw us and followed as we ran to Donna’s stoop where we sat waiting to be chastised. We didn’t realize that having so much fun could be so unholy!
GERALDINE GAGLIARDI
Do you remember that we played together – maybe we were 11 or 12? We lived across the street from each other. I remember you had a great party in your basement one time. All the lights were turned off and ….. I don’t remember too much else after that, but I know it was great fun. I hope you are well. I wish I could remember more because I know we hung out together for awhile. I think my sister Rita was friends with your brother.
DONNA REITZ AND KENNY
I remember both of you very clearly but cannot pinpoint any specifics. My sister Marianne remembers almost everything from her childhood, but my memory is not as keen. I also remember Roseanne Gil. I don’t recall seeing her name on here though. It sounds like you both have a great life together. Best wishes always.
Does anyone remember Bobby, Stanley and Ursula Wiesysak (sp?) from 22nd st bet. 4th and 5th? Years ago, I heard that Bobby broke his back in a skiing accident but recovered fully. I think Ursula is still a nun and working in the Vatican. I don’t know about Stanley or how all of them are today. Would love to hear from Bobby – we played stickball, tag, and built snowmen and igloos from ages 8-10 or so.
Patty
Charles Miele
Don’t remind me about that apartment-
You walked into a long foyer, at the end, there was a big room that was the kitchen, the living room, and the dining room all in one. There was an old fashioned tub with a porcelain top that was excruciatingly heavy and the sink was between that and the wall near the window that looked out over 4th Ave. Your Grandmother and my Mother used to roll dough on that top. My Mother would always make home made ravioli, and pasta. I hated that building and apartment. When we moved to 5th avenue things got better. I see that apartment building left a mighty impression on you. I went back there a month or two ago and took photos of the hallway and the door marked Apartment 12. and the window where my Mother would spent her days looking out over 4th ave.
I wanted to knock on the door to see the apartment but I decided not to. Everything seemed to be in miniature.
Patty Negri: I’m back from the beach and the ocean was beautiful today. The wheather is pristine here.
Why don’t you call me later –516-708-1184-or can I call you? Is the time difference 2 or 3 hours earlier than NY-
BTW if anyone wants to call me or email me feel free…. [email protected]
ANTHONY OLIVA
Arizona has strange time zones. In the summer we use Pacific Standard Time, but in the winter it’s Mountain. So right now I’m three hours behind you, but in January it’ll be two hours. It’s 2:30 right now and 5:30 pm in NY.
Please call me in about two hours because I’m working on a report that I must finish. Call my home number since I’m almost out of minutes on my cell – must get a new plan. I’m going swimming later today, but I’d give anything to be on a beach right now – even a NY beach!
Does anyone remember the huge horseshoe crabs that would wash up on the Brighton, Coney Island and Rockaway beaches? I believe those crabs have been around since the Jurassic era!
I lived in Brighton Beach for three years and loved walking on the beach in the winter time – only the Polar Bear Club members were in the water then. Remember them? Does anyone remember getting Knishes on Brighton Beach Ave.?
Does anyone remember Washington Baths – a private swim club in Coney Island with a huge pool, private beach, saunas and steam rooms. My parents and extended family would go there a few times each summer with a picnic full of fried veal cutlet and eggplant parm. sandwiches – with watermelon and peaches to follow. I’d give anything to be back there with my family now.
Must go.

Annette the reunion is Sept 21st if you want to go you have to 25.00 each. And has to be paid soon to Terry Angelo.
My brother Jack died in 1997 June 25th. 10 days before he died we were all at a party for Jim and my 25th Anniversary. He looked pretty bad that day. We thought he wouldn’t make the party but he did and died 10 days later. He had Cardiomyopathy(?) Remember Beaches the movie- Bette Midler (?) her friend had that..
My brother Sal is good retired but can’t sit still, he’s always doing something. He likes carpentry, he just re did his daughters house.
Gus (Gaspare) is upstate in middletown , NY his daughter just had twins. My sister Ann lives in Va. and Mary (Marie) in Manhattan.
Hey Ralphie Marsella, I was thinking maybe you didn’t remember me.
To bad about Ritchie. Looking forward to seeing you and that film. I saw Sid a few years ago at a reunion that Bobby Corbett organized, when the 19th St, crowd and the 21st St crowd all got together, Jessie, Sid Bobby, Pat Morello, and lo and behold Sid was there with Denise. See you at the Reunion
RALPHIE MARSELLA,
I sent you an email using the revised email address. I hope you got it. It had the information about the reunion.
ANNETTE,
If you email me, I’ll send the information for the reunion including Terry Angelo’s address to mail the money. She is collecting the money and I’m taking the responses and further harassing people to attend and pay (lol).
Hope you can come. My email address is:
[email protected]
Terry
I’ll have to ask Frances Panchok if her Mom remembers the Scout leaders well. I do remember Ann Wall. I also remember Mrs. Cavallo…She was the mother of Joan and Joseph, must be in their 60’s now and living on SI.
Janet
It’s so strange that I don’t remember you from back then at PS 146. I team taught in First Grade and then went to 2nd. I had Mrs. Mary Ferrara as my para. She was a lovely woman.
Cousin Patty
Yes, I did not mention that my Mom and Aunt Caroline Negri worked the bar during the day on certain days. I remember hearing about your fist fight with your sister , Rita. The Negri girls could fight except for Marianne. My Mom was so upset and never stopped talking about Rita and Patty actually fist fighting in front of people too. Being an only child I found it all so amusing.
Heard Sister Ursula is back in the States now. Don’t know what happened to Stanly and Bobby. When Sister was in Rome she was friendly with Cathy Guerrasio from 22nd Street who still resides in Roma.

Let see I had Miss Woods in 2nd, 3rd it was Mrs.Elarde, 4th Mrs. Boyd 5th grade was Mrs.Sacronia she was tuff that was the only grade I didn’t like and thenMrs. Boyd again, Funny how I can rememebr that but don’t ask me what I did 2 minutes ago LOL, I can’t wait to see everyone Although I don’t remember most of the people since I lived on 21st between 6 & 7th Aves. Well it will be fun, I read that Rosie Marsella and her sister Jeanette might come them I know. Would love to see them again.
Ter:
FYI don’t mention Volpe’s name and Grace’s name in the sentence to Jamsey. Bad blood there.
MaryAnn Yasso Fucci
It was my husband, Joe, that your father in law stood up for at confirmation not my brother, Billy.
I mentioned Marie Cavallo, she was also very involved in all the plays at St. Johns. Also I said their daughters were Grace, Franny and Rita – opps – that’s a mistake the youngest daughter was LucyAnn and she lives in Hollywood, Fl. and we exchange christmas cards and greetings every year. Rita is Grace Cavallo’s youngest . They lived in the first house after the garages on 22nd st. and Frank Cavallo was always sitting inside the gate. My cousin, Tommy Mullalley bought the house after they moved. He has since moved to Las Vegas.
Yes, I do remember Rose Panica as being one of our girl scout leaders also.
Marie Elena, would Frances Panchok know the where abouts of Carolyn German? Do you rember the great birthday parties Mrs. Panchok always had for Frances?
Florence Palma – I will get in touch with you ~ a lot of catching up to do…….
Have a Wonderful Labor Day Everyone and God Bless the USA……
Blesssings,
Elaine
Thank you Mary Ann, what a small world lol! His relatives live 3 blocks from me.
Terry did you get ahold of Joanne? If not I’ll go to King Kullen and find her at work. Joanne told Mom she , Joannie Red Calciano and a couple of others are coming.
Everyone bring those books for signing LOL! Only kidding.
Judy you’re not going crazy Jolene was right Sr. St. Anne taught 1st grade and was a Met Fan. If she can get ahold of her if she’s still with us maybe she will know how to get ahold of some of the nuns from st. johns that are still with us and invite them to come to the reunion. I tried the Brentwood convent but had no luck.
I saw Sr. Ethel Rita/ Sr. Judith about 10 years ago I’m going to try to get ahold of her last I knew she was living at OLPH and teaching at St. Josephs HS.
terry,
i didn’t know you wanted us to bring something. tell me what you want or need.
donna
CHRISTINA{TWIGGY}
GOT THE INFO THANKS MUCH.QUESTION ARE YOU MAKING NAME TAGS UP ?
CHOW
RALPHIE MARSELLA,
Yes, dear, I am making name tags. It’s the least I can do since you’re going to bring that DVD of the band. I was a young girl, but I remember Jeanne taking me to the block parties and listening to you play and loving it so much.
Someone should bring the “Jesus Christ Superstar” CD. That was another record that was played constantly by Jeanne and Dawn O’Donnell.
Marie Elena Giuttari D’Angelo Hi, I was a Para in the Special Class (store front class) in PS146 but in 10s, I worked with Sue Feldman, Janet
