  1. MARGARET C. RITTENHOUSE,
LAST TIME I SAW CARO SCHWEERS AND LOUIS TRIMBOLI WAS AT OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE FOR A PLAY THE KIDS PUT ON. I WENT TO H.S WITH MARION SCHWEERS AND WAS IN HER BRIDAL PARTY. HAVE NOT SEEN HER AND HER SISTER EMMA IN 45YRS OR MORE. CAN YOU GET IN TOUCH WITH THE SCHWEER GIRLS AND TELL THEM ABOUT THE REUNION AND THE TRIMBOLIS. THE TRIMBOLIS LIVED A FEW DOORS DOWN FROM ME ON 20TH ST. WENT TO GRAMAR SCHOOL WITH LOUIS.
    LOVE TERRY

  2. SUSAN ORLANDI,
TELL BABE I THINK OF HER EVERYTIME I SEE THE SOAPS. HOW MY MOM AND BABE WOULD TALK ABOUT ANOTHER WORLD. MY MOM EVEN SENT BABE AN INVITE ONCE TO THE SOAP OPERA WEDDING AS A JOKE. ASK HER BOUT RACHEL AND MACS WDDING ON THE SOPA FROM YEARS AGO. WHAT GREAT MEMORIES. LOVE TERRY

  3. LIKE I SAID BEFORE IM NOT STUPID I JUST CANT TYPE. WHAT THE HELL. IM TELLING YOU THOSE TYPING LESSONS I GUESS DID NOT HELP IN BAY RIDGE H.S LOL

  4. Linda,
I can’t tell you how saddened I am to hear that news about Roe, she was very young…….please tell your sister Barbara hi again, sending my best to your whole family, and hoping you’ll attend the reunion, it should be wonderful, just to see the old faces again is worth it’s price in gold….so you have 5 grandchildren, are they all Nicki’s children, or does your son have children too? I only have the one, and I tell her all the time that she got her name from Sheila’s daughter Toniann, how are all Sheila’s kids doing? Your not going to believe this, but about 3 years ago I was at a diner with my sister in law having lunch, and as we were about to leave this girl sitting in the booth across from us asked me if my name was Pinky, I of course said yes, and she said my name is Donna, Sheila and Donnie’s daughter, I could have fell on the floor, I asked her how she recognized me (as I would have never known her) and she said I knew your voice, as soon as you started talking I knew who you were…….blew me away, so we spoke a while, she told me about Donnie being operated on and how they almost lost him. This blog brings back so many good memories, I can’t tell you how talking to you like this means to me, I hope you guys make it to the reunion, I have a feeling it will be a very emotional meeting for everyone. There are so many names I know, but faces I can’t place. When ever you happen to talk to Laura, please send her my love. Well I’ll be talking to you again soon…love to all of you wonderful Joys……… Pinky

  5. Karen,

You know how much I loved Edithann. I still think of her everytime I find a dime (remember that?).

Isn’t it funny how we were just talking about how Jeanne Oliva came to your house on my wedding day and did the makeup for you, Donna & Susan. Edithann made us remember that. Susan, do you remember?

Tell Donna to at least come on this site. What about Gina?

Susan…..glad to see you here. Of course, I remember Christmas in July at the Bonavita house.

Hi Tommy…..hope to see you at the reunion.

  6. Christina,

I know my cousin Patty can’t come to the reunion (I’m just busting her chops!)

But, thanks for letting me know that Tommy is a “maybe”. I’m sure he’ll change that to a “yes”.

  7. Florence Palma FINALLY……………….
Marie Elena and I finally found you….what a great surprise…
I also tried getting in touch with you under the Reale name, I think I called a number years ago and think I got his father….but they didn’t know where you were……I hope my memory serves me right on that one……..
Then about 20 years ago, you met my sister in law in a hair saloon shop, and I thought for sure we would have heard from you, but then we didn’t….every time Marie Elena and I talk we tried to track you down….Every January l7th I think about you and silently wish you happy birthday, and then the next day it was Cathy’s turn….We have all hit the big one that year…..I will email you and bring you up to date…I am off work until next tuesday so I have plenty of time….Have two children, and two beautiful granddaughters…
For now I will just write this as I just got home from Brooklyn, while you guys were catching up here, I was having lunch with Harvey Bird….yes, Harvey, I found him just last week on classmates.com..just this past week…couldn’t believe it…havent’ seen him in almost 40 plus years….too many to count….He met me at my Uncles who he used to work with many years ago……so it was kind of a reunion for my Uncle and I with him………enjoyed the afternoon very much…even brought some old pictures Ihad of him along…..so many years to catch up on…..
This has been awesome….and I remember well those days with all of us as you described the four muskateers…..that we were………
    will write you soon…….

  9. AM, Karen…yes I remember and I also remember Debbie did my hair! Thomas…you didn’t tell me you may go to the reunion!
By the way my cousin lives in my great-grandmothers house on 22nd street, he restored the front to what it looked like when my father was a little boy.

  10. This blog is absolutely amazing. I get on it every chance I get.

Pinky – It has been so many years (too many, in fact). I wish
I could be there for the reunion. There are so many people on this blog I would love to visit with. I still keep in touch with a few of them. As you know I am getting married on 9/20. His name is Alan. We live in Gettysburg, PA. I was living in Dallas, TX for 19 years and met Alan through a mutual friend in Dallas. I am very happy and love PA. Well, have a wonderful time at the reunio and will talk to you soon.

Nilda – How are you? You sound so full of life as you usually do. Have fund at the reunion.

Barbara Spencer – How is life treating you these days? Do you haved any children?

Patsy Miele – You were always so funny. I always loved talking to you. You made me laugh. I know you will have a great time on 9/21.

Francesca Bruno-Saracino – “My friend from the Block”. How are you doing? How was your lunch with Jamesy. When you speak with him again, please say hi to him for me. Love and miss ya.

Janek- Will you and Maryann be going to the reunion? I know it will be a blast.

    Take care all,
    Lizzie

  11. Anne Marie…did you work in the rectory too? I feel a senior moment upon me. Karen and Debbie I think my brother may have a copy of “It’s a Marshmellow World” that your dad recorded.

  12. Not for nothin’ (as they say) but this is sounding a bit like “The View”. I think we need some guys to talk about some of the stupid and sometimes dangerous things we did as kids. Sometimes I am amazed that some of us survived !

  13. Hey Patsy,

Do you know where your Uncle Sal Orlando is?? How about your Aunt Rose-Marie & her husband Johnny… I would really love to say hello to them & my brother Johnny would like to talk to Sally Boy. How about Uncle Tony Orlando too??? Please let me know if you know where they might be…

    Love Geri

  14. I am part of the D’Ambra clan-with my Grandmother Katie and my Grandfather Dominick. I am proud of the fact that I have the best cousin’s (The Bonavita clan) All of my best and funniest memories are at that house-from New Years and almost every weekend I spent there (we moved from Bklyn (22nd st) when I was 5. Even though I moved to L.I. at a very young age-I still have memories of D’Amico’s and St. John’s (where my cousin Gina and I decided to
“get lost” for about 7 hours –boy were we in trouble when Aunt Diana and Aunt Dee realized where we were. My Aunt’s -Lillian and Rosie are still in the same house and my Mom lives in Holiday, Fl. -Through my cousin’s-I have come to know many of you (I was much younger then) but I remember you Christine Oliva and how funny I alway’s thought you were. I am so sorry about your sister. I remember you Anne Marie Ischia and Susan Orlandi and Nilda who used to do my Aunt Rosie’s hair. I only attended St. Johns for Kindergarten-but my sister’s Lois and Michele went there alot longer. We moved to Long Island in 1970. But as a child and for alot of my teen years we were in bklyn pretty much every w/e.
Happy Birthday to my cousin Edith Ann-we love and miss you. And to the rest of my cousins, Karen, Donna, Debbie, Gina, Vinny and Nick- we may not see each other much – but know that you are all in my thoughts-all of my best and greates times were at your house-I have been married for almotst 15 years now and have 4 children – Alex, 12 Anthony 10, Brandon, 7 and Cameron 5. It is nice reading all of the blog’s- even though I don’t know or remember everyone-my Mom does-.Bye for now. Lisa

  15. Yes, Susan I worked in the Rectory. I was paid $1.00 per hour…..that was pretty bad. On the weekend I wasn’t allowed to go home to eat so they fed me, but I wasn’t allowed to have any of the entree (meat) that the priests were given.

On Saturday it was soup and entree (I was only given the soup) and on Sunday it was pasta & the entree (once again, I was only given the pasta). I was not allowed to have any soda (just water) and no dessert for me! Boy, was I a stupid kid for working there.

Father Trimboli had his own food and it was locked up so the other priests couldn’t touch it!

    Joey Vergolino worked there, also.

  16. WHERE ARE YOU ROCCO JR.??????
WHERE ARE YOU LUCILLE BALL AND ALL THE BLOGGERS FROM THE BEGINNING. IT IS NOT THE SAME WITHOUT YOU GUYS.
ANTHONY OLIVA WHAT HAPPENED ARE YOU STILL AROUND. LOVE TERRY OH YOU TOO PAULIE OLIVA.

ANTHONY I HOPE YOU ARE NOT HOME MAKING SAUCE/GRAVY FOR THE PARTY WE ARE ORDERING THE FOOD. LOL

  17. Anne Marie,

Don’t worry. If you go to the reunion, you can have all the entrees you want. On the other hand, there is no retrospective compensation for the slave wages you earned in the rectory.

  18. Hi Lisa Friedland!

I can’t believe you moved when you were only 5. It seemed like you were ALWAYS in the Bonavita house.

How are your sisters Lois & Michelle?

  19. Bob,

    That’s Funny!!!!

I felt like a slave in the Rectory. Sometimes I had to work 12 hours straight and I was only a kid!

  20. Youse guys think it was bad working the rectory. I worked in the local supermarket and when I cut my arm open on the conveyor belt, Joe Schotz, the manager made me punch out to go to the Methodist Hospital. Just ask Eddie Elardo. He worked there also. I didn’t get entrees or soup !

  21. Anne Marie that sounds like slave labor I think my brother-in law worked for the custodians at Saint Johns and they made him paint the the whole fence around the church and it was like 95 degrees

  22. Linda Joy;

I’m Judy Occhiogrosso (Catalano) I think I remember you I know the Joy name. Marie Taglenniti is Camille’s cousin and I am her sister-in-law my husband is Billy’s brother Richie, funny you should talk about her son’s wedding because Maria’s other son Billy is gettig married the day before the reunion, I guess its my fault that they are having the party on Sunday, because we are coming up from Florida.

  23. Cousin Lisa
I send hugs and kisses. Memories will never fade as you can see from this great site.

    Anne Marie Paladino
I sent Donna the link, hopefully she will get on soon. Don’t think she will make it up from VA for the reunion but will ask. I remember those days at the Rectory. You lived right across the street and they wouldn’t let you go home.

    Susan Orlandi
Help your brother find that copy of Marshmallow World! I also have pictures from Lucio basement. I will bring copies with me on the 21st. If you don’t make it, I will email to you. Let me know. How old are your boys?

    Tommy Alioto
How are you? I want your sister to help you find Marshmallow World? How old are your daughters? I know one is the same age as my son, 13 going on 14, right?

    Christina Oliva Hagin
    Call me!!!!

  24. HI ANNE MARIE ISCHIA PALADINO-I KNOW – DOESN’T IT-THAT’S BECAUSE I WAS PROBABLY THERE MORE THAN I WAS HOME-I USED TO HAVE SO MUCH FUN THERE-GINA AND I WERE ALWAYS GETTING INTO TROUBLE. LOIS IS LIVING IN BOCA RATON-HER CHILDREN ARE 24 AND 21 AND SHE IS A GRANDMOTHER-HER DAUGHTER HAS 2 CHILDREN- MY SISTER MICHELE LIVES ABOUT 30 MINUTES FROM ME AND HER DAUGHTERS ARE 21 AND 18 AND SHE IS A GRANDMOTHER TOO. I HAVE QUITE A CLAN MYSELF AND MY HOUSE SEEM’S JUST AS CRAZY AS THE BONAVITA HOUSE USED TO BE-I REMIND MYSELF OF MY AUNT DIANA SOMETIMES (GOD REST HER SOUL) – I HOPE ALL IS WELL WITH YOU-I MISS MY COUSINS-I STILL CAN SEE YOUR FACE-YOU WERE ALWAYS SO NICE. TAKE CARE. LISA

  25. Fat Sister Georgina made me leave class to buy her pizza and I didn’t get a single slice. I think it might have been 95 degrees also (I added that to make it sound worse).

  26. AnneMarie…They fed you?! I brought my own bag lunch which probably cost more than I made that day! Luisa was the cook she was so funny, she didn’t speak much english and loved to watch those spanish soap opera’s. Anthony and I used to open the church on Tuesday evenings during the summer for the St. Anthony novina.
Thomas you’re right they did paint the fence I think Dino, Jackie were involved with that too.
OK Terry Angelo….you’re right I’m addicted

  27. Judy (Occhiogrosso) Catalano – Hi, I am not sure if we know each other. I am good friends with Karen Catalano (Jimmy’s ex). If you are the same Judy, hi. Nice to see you on the blog. Hope things are going well for you and the family. I live in Pennsylvania. I don’t see Karen that much any more, but we do speak often.

Take care and enjoy the reunion.

  28. Of course they fed her. I heard that once a month they sacrificed one of the children working in the rectory and ate them. Where do you think the “entrees” came from ? Hey, it was tough growing up back then (if you got to grow up).

  29. Hi Tina,

  34. Anybody out there keep in touch with any of the members of The Shirts (punk rock band) ? Ronnie Ardito was manager of CBGBs a long time back (though they had a number of managers). He grew up in my house.

  35. Someone should put together a map of the area and have people put their names on the address where they lived (for the reunion).

GOOD NITE ALL , TALK TOMORROW 🙂

  40. Marie Elena & Mary Ann: After writing to you girls today, I kept checking to see if you responded. I was so excited that I must have tried at least five times. I can see getting addicted to this site. I sure hope it continues after the reunion. It’s so much fun reading about the old neighborhood and all the memories … some of them common to more than one person — like working in that damn rectory and Father Sclafani. I remember going to confession one Saturday afternoon and got Father Sclafani. After giving me my penance he turned around to face me and asked if I could work in the rectory addressing envelopes the next week. Imagine???? I remember being so freaked out. Who knows what I was confessing at that time, but he knew it was Florence Palma on the other side of that screen. Scary! (P.S. It must have been some confession because I had to say five rosaries —- only kidding!)

My God, how do you catch up on all these years in one computer session? I guess we’ll have to keep writing or to at least call one another.

Marie Elena: I don’t remember making you wait on the porch for me to get dressed and apologize for that. As far as having crushes on the same boys, I’ll bet you never had a crush on Steven P. I was so in love with him. What the “h” was I thinking? Anyway, I heard from him a few years ago. He tracked me down at a general number at the school district where I was working and got transferred from building to building and finally found me. He was asking for Florence Palma and one of the girls in the payroll office recognized my maiden name and transferred him to my office.

I have company from Long Island staying with me so I had to sneak onto the computer to check the site so I wouldn’t seem rude. I live in Florida, as you may have heard, and have had a constant line of visitors from New York for the past two years since I’ve retired. My sister Donna moved here this past March and is still settling in. My sons live down here in St. Petersburg and are doing well, thank God. I have no grandchildren (that I know of) at the present time but would love to see at least one before I close my eyes.

My sister, Margaret, has three daughter—Donna, Andrea & Nicole. Donna got married last October; Andrea & Nicole are twins and are 21 years old. They are beautiful girls.

I must go and socialize right now but please keep in touch.

Mary Ann: Is your birthday in March?

    Love,
    Florence

  41. I remember The Shirts and have all of their albums. Annie G. was great. She was in Hair (movie) and did some shows off-broadway (and was in two episodes of Cheers). My husband saw them play at CBGBs. we saw them at one of the first of those annual festivals at the band shell in Prospect Park. It would be terrific to hear from anyone who keeps in touch with them.

  42. Donna tell Jackie about this site I talked to him last week but I forgot to tell him say hello to Kenny talk to you later cuz.
    Tommy

  43. I don’t know many of you on this blog. Does anyone know Mary Pergue ? Frances Zachorowski ? Or any of the other girls my husband had a crush on when he was a kid ?

  44. Tried to call you about the reunion and this blog but never any answer. So much for that iPhone, eh ?

  45. Terry, Great Idea. Catering will be better. What is your address to send the money, if you don’t want to post on here, email me your address.

Sally Ears do you remember me? Sorry to hear of your stroke. You can’t make it to the reunion? Seems like almost everyone from this site will be there. Camille is trying to come.

Susan Orlandi what year did Robert graduate St. John’s. He was in my class but not sure which one.

Ann Marie and Fran L can’t believe how your children have grown. Where did the years go?

Linda Joy your name is so familiar but can’t put a face to it.
