Maria Castaldo, have you seen my response about the location of the gridirion,,, 76th and 3rd. it’s above
HI ALL HOPE EVERYONE IS FINE. JUST CAME FROM THE STRAUSSBERG RAILROAD RIDE IN PA. IT WAS NICE AND WENT TO APPLEBEE’S FOR DINNER. HI TO MY BRO. CHARLIE AND AUNT CAROL
21STREET IS A GREAT IDEA. ANYWAY, I AM SURE TEERI WILL LET US KNOW OF ANY CHANGES π SOMEONE ASKED WHERE “GRIDIRON” WAS. IT WAS ON 72ST AND 3RD AVE, IT BECAME TJ BENTLEY’S AFTER THAT AND NOW A CLUB FROM GREENWICH VILLAGE CALLED “CAFE REMEY” IS THERE. IT IS RE RENOVATED AND A NICE PLACE. (I LIVE 4 BLOCKS FROM THERE NOW) CHARLIE, JOEY SPINATTO DIED, NOT ANTHONY. π
Anthony O…..Was that where TJ Bentley’s was? That was 72nd and 3rd.

Hi Franny Bruno S.
Just read your entry from yesterday. You’re so sweet and oh so kind. Yes I remember Lucille De Canio and My mother and Josephine worked together for over 30 years . They still talk from time to time. I know that Josephine’s oldest daughter passed away recently. How very sad.
Well how about this site ? I’ve never seen anything like it. It’s great to see how much we really remember of our past and how much we almost forgot had it not been for this site.
Heard from Barbara Spencer the other day. Small world…she invited me to a reunion in Staten Island on 9/21. How funny is that? I told her I’m the one who suggested that poor Terry have this shindig. At the rate it’s going Terry’s going to tell me I had a great idea or kill me! Saw her the day she returned from the cruise. She looked great but is still in a lot of pain with her poor leg. Well sweet Franny see you soon at the reunion ..wherever it may be.
Barbara Spencer
Great to hear from you. Can’t wait to see you at the reunion. How many years has it been? About 40 ? Oh Boy. Reading this site I’m 16 again. See you soon.
Elizabeth Joy
Forgive me but I don’t remember you. I went to P.S.146, 10, and John Jay. Graduated in 1969. Maybe we’ll catch up at the reunion. Bye.

Ann Marie Fucci – Oh my God! I can’t believe you logged on. I went to school with Joseph. I do not remember you but I will never forget your brother playing the piano! I belieive Christina Oliver mentioned him on this blog or maybe it was Gina. Tell him to come on! I do believe you guys moved from 21st when he was younger?
To my sisters: Willy said You’re welcome – but do not make it a habit!!! lol
Hi Anthony,
Yes. Thanks for clearing up my “senior moment”.
Do you remember Skinflints on 5th Ave – Great burgers! I would hang out there with Emily Gil. Remember the Gil family from 19th St. Her brothers were Rudy and Henry.
What about Penthouse on 87St. or Revelations!!!
I went on classmates.com today and found a Victor Spinnato – John Jay HS. I think he is their cousin. I sent him an e-mail with the blog address.
Jackie Price – how are your brothers????
Lucia – how are you – it has been a long time. My sisters and I were talking to about when we met all of you camping, upstate NY somewhere. We were suppose to stay a couple of days but it rained and became very muddy and cold. By morning we were on our way back to Brooklyn!!! Give Dietzie my regards.
Charlie, what a great memory you have. Look foward to seeing you after all these years!
Gary
You have such a sad story. I am sorry I questioned you. I am going to try and reach one of my cousin’s to see if I can help you out. Don’t know if you remember Frankie boy Louis or Steven Trimboli they were Dorothy’s cousin’s also. I think I can get in touch with Frankie boy he works in a school bus company in Coney Island.

How are you long time. WHo did you see in church today.
can’t wait to see everybody. I see you been talking to my wife Roz and my sisiter-in-law carol on the phone.
Carol Miele
Yes Joey and Patty Corso lived on 20th street between 3rd. and 4th ave. They moved in the early seventy’s to somewhere on Mc Donald Ave. Last time I saw Joey was in Negri’s bar he came to see his cousin Civi he was the bartender. That was in 71 or 72 his parents didn’t want him in the neighborhood. If anyone remembers he and Richie Souvia got shot on 28th street. Two kids in the wrong place at the wrong time. Joey made it and Richie didn’t. Richie was Maria Callendero boyfriend. They were two very good friends.
Anna Fucci
Remember you very well I lived next door to you at 283- 21st. street. How could any one not remember Doc Fucci. I remember all your brother’s. Your father coached baseball for St. John’s he coached Champy your brother Joey – Jackie and Stevie Price Albert Sacco. We would go to the Parade Grounds to watch them play I was a little boy at the time.
Maria Castaldo
You don’t know me, but I lived in the neighborhood on 22nd between 5th and 6th,, hung out with Ralph Marsella and the rest of the crowd back then, I married Sal Fucci, from 21st…next door to the bonavitas….
I just read that you found the Palmer Sisters…..
Florence and I grew up together on 22nd street….My sister in law met her in Holbrook, Long Island years ago…..
Marie Elena Guittari and I tried finding her but no success,
I can’t believe you found them ……
If you do hear from them please tell Florence to get in touch…I don’t know if she still lives out on Long Island still….
[email protected]….I understand you were talking to Donna if I read correctly, please pass the email address on to her….
thanks…..
Hi DEBBIE BRODBECK S.
I spoke to Lucille DeCanio for two hours today. And we could have gone on forever. Had lots of laughs… and I was very saddened to hear about her sister Angela’s passing.
I just sent Lucille this site, So now for the firstime, since I’ve been involved with this site, I have my very own childhood school friend to reminice with. As you know, we PS146-ers, and 10’s folks, are the minority on this site.
Debbie, I know in my first blog to you I thanked you for your support during my diagnosis and treatments….
But did I ever say – that when we were young ones, you had the most beautiful HIGH sorprano voice of our day. (I was a Sorprano in Miss Ferrara’s class). Every Christmas when I hear “Oh Holy Night” I think of your beautiful solo.
Do you remember Debbie Walters from music class (JH10)? I met her there the first day of Music Class (she was an alto)…. and we
have been friends ever since. She lived in the Garden Apartments back then (now in FL). I think we may have been one grade behind you.
It’s amazing when I think back to the diversity of the songs we were taught. We did ‘religious’ songs, gospel, Spanish, show tunes – there were no boundaries and no one was ever offended. A true melting pot. (And today, they can’t pledge the allegiance any more.) Do you believe I can still remember almost evey word to most of the songs from “Oklahoma?” We were a sophisticated bunch of kids.
Remember at Christmas time we would go to the beautiful Atlas Bank on 9th St. and sing. And once again, you were a star!
Remember the May Day Dance ‘Recitals’ PS146 (whatever they were).
Do you still sing?
———————————
So funny that Barbara invited you to the reunion. Glad Terry’s checking out an option to her house. Makes sense.
Take care Debbie and I’ll see you next month.. Till then – sending
you love and a wish for all of God’s Blessings – that you deserve!
GOODNIGHT EVERY ONE!!!

After reading some of the post on here, now I remember the Rizzo family next door on 21st street….Didn’t make the connection before…until I saw the posting from Anna Marie….I married her brother Sal….thanks for letting me know about Florence ….and passing the word out to her, I hope she gets on here, Marie Elena Guittari and I always remember the times growing up on 22nd street in the late 50’s and early 60’s…This has been so awesome reading all this…..even though i don’t know everyone on here, it’s bringing back such great memories…I just go in contact with Harvey Bird, he live in the apartments on 4th ave….and 23rd???? some on here had mentioned them and I found him on classmates.com…from St. Johns……it’s been a real blast from the past these past weeks…I enjoy reading everyone’s post and all their memories….those were the good ole days, that’s for sure…..
thanks for passing the word……
Carol Castaldo–I don’t recall your face, but know your name. Thank you for remembering my mother. She passed away in 1995. Everyone remembers her for her vitality and love of people and fun. My sister Janet may come up to NY for the reunion. I hope everybody wears nametags!
I mention Marie Elena Guittari, her grandfather owned Negri’s Bar, Caroline Palladino was her Aunt, Marie Elena and I were very good friends and still are we were like family, Caroline Palladino was Aunt Caroline to me back then…..I remember when Anthony was a little boy the last time I saw him.. and I also was friends with the Negri girls who were Marie Elena’s cousins…we used to push Mary Ann Negri around in her carriage when she was little,…I just came across an old picuture of their sister Patty…..this site has brought back lots of memories growing up on 22nd street with the Palmer girls, Marie Elena, the Negri’s and the Guerrasio family …..Frank posted on here a while ago…but havent’ seen him post since….

Terry Angelo
Who did you see in Church. Thank you for telling me about Louie.
FRANNY,
i was just going to bed and addicted checked in again. THE BANK ON 9TH STREET WAS THE GREATER NEW YORK BANK.
NOW I AM REALLY GOING UP TO BED. LOVE TERRY
OH I EMAILED YOU I AM NOT GETTING YOUR EMAILS.
DEBBIE TELL HER HOW TO GET THE EMAILS BACK WHEN YOU GET A CHANCE. THE SAME THING THAT HAPPENED TO YOU WITH YOUR EMAILS IS THE SAME PROBLEM FRANNY IS HAVING. GOOD NIGHT
GOOD NITE ALL TALK AGAIN, TOMORROW π
The bank on 9St was the GREATER NEW YORK SAVINGS BANK – do you remember the nuns, taking us to the bank to open a savings account? Each week the nun’s would pass out brown envelopes…they had a computer card inside and you had to write your name and amount of deposit. They would collect them on Friday and bring them to the bank for us.
Also, do you remember every Christmas going to the bank to sing Christmas Carols….I do.
Thanks Terry. Donna was very happy to hear about the site. Donna mentioned your sister and would like to get in touch with her. She is also calling her sister’s Margaret and Florence to pass along this site. Donna is coming to NY in Oct.
Also, please give the Gill family my regards.
MaryAnn – my sister Carol will pass your info along.
good nite all, sleep well
may god bless
Terry
It seems we have the Palmer girls in common….Florence and I were friends back in the mid 50’s and early 60’s…we lived on the same block….I do remember her Mother Bella and her Father Tony…we were in each others houses all the time growing up, I have pictures of all of us together back then, Marie Elena Giuttari.. Florence and Cathy Guearriso…..I left the neighborhood in l968 after I married Sal Fucci from 21st street, my Mom still lived there until around l970 or 71, so still went back there for visits to see my Mom, and Sal’s mom and dad….I was in the neighborhood about three years ago… and was amazed at all the condo that are now there…..no matter where you lived or live now, that neighborhood will always be home to me and everyone else on this site….
Thanks for bringing this back for all of us….
Franie Bruno: Have you been in touch with Debbie Walters. She was one of my best friends, we used to hang out at our club on 17th street off fifth and all over the hood. I know she moved to FL, and a few of us went to see her in Tamarac a year or two after she went there. Let me know if you’re in touch with her. I would love to be in touch with her again.
Maria Castaldo, yes I do remember Penthouse and Revelations. I didn’t go there much. And of course Skinflints, my friend Bobby Corbett was a part owner. I was a waiter there when I was acting, what a place to get blizzed.
And OMG, I just got an image in my mind of Charles Miele. Charles now I know what you look like, and I remember you now, because Patsy stated above, I would know you if I saw you, and that jarred my memory.
We have to do some research on how the brain is prompted to remember things. If Patsy didn’t say that I would have never remembered..
Franny- Did you say you’re a psycologist? you can study my brain if you want, and we can write a paper on the results. It would probably be sequestered, and sealed for 100 years..lol

TERRY ANGELO & ANTHONY OLIVA,
My brother, Anthony Oliva, is a GREAT photographer.
I’m sure he would LOVE to be the reunion photographer.
TERRY ANGELO:
Hey Terry, it’s Laura (LaTorre) Marsella, how the hell are you. I cannot wait for this reunion to take place. Are you going to get the yacht club or are you having it in Brooklyn. No matter where its being held, I am surely going to be there. I am so overwhelmed with all the people that have been communicating on this site. How did it ever get started. What a wonderful way to talk to each other.
You were always so funny and I’m sure you are still beautiful as ever. Is mom and dad still with us. I hope I don’t feel out of place at this reunion, since talking on this site, almost everyone has children and became grandparents. I have no children, and I’m not married anymore, but very happy. I have a wonderful boyfried who I’ve been with for 4 years now. I live on S.I. for 10 years now, work at Maimonides Medical Center in Nursing Department for18 years. Remember when I worked for MEBA-AMO on 19th street and 4th Avenue. Wow that’s going back so many years. Talk you soon, Love Laura
Anthony Rizzo
I’m sure you remember me from 6th avenue 21st street. I married Joe Marsella but we split along time ago. You were in many of my classes at St.Johns along with Roslind, Hi Roslind. Do you remember Evelyn Popalardo, Eileen Barber, I wonder whatever happened to them. Also do you remembe Joseph Tringali, Marie Aversano, Michael Rozak, Steven Kozar, Michael Gagliardi, Janet Testagrosso, Gloria Spinelli, Catherine Palladino, Tommy Ischia OMG this is so unreal. Hope to see you at reunion. It is going to be unbelievable.
Anthony Oliva:
I remember you, but I’m not sure if you remember me. I can see your face in front of me. Correct me if I’m wrong, did you father work as a pharmacist or in a pharmacy in the old neighborhood.
Hello Janet Horan:
My god, I can’t believe what I’m seeing and hearing from this site. I spoke with my sister Anna Marie. She now lives in Las Vegas, retired. Her husband is a NYC retired policeman. They are living the good life. When I told her about this site, she flipped out when she heard your name and Marilyn. She sends her love. Hope to see you at the reunion. Love Laura
Debbie Brodbeck: It has been more than 40 years! I have some class pics from P.S. 146 that I am going to try to find and bring. I also have one singing in the bak on 9th St. I remember your parents too, especially your Mom. Will be great to see you again.
Elizabeth Joy: So nice to hear that someone else remembers Annette and Arlene Durante. Annette’s death really affected my life. She was my best friend. Always went over their house after school. My Mom worked and wasn’t home but their mother was always home. I remember the Valentine’s Day party we had there. I have a pic of us with big red hearts on our chests that we made. Question: I heard Laura passed away. What happened to Larry Fachner? Do you know? See you soon.

Does anyone remember the “bread store” that D’Amico opened up right next to the bakery? Fresh Italian bread right out of the oven. I can still smell it!!!!! I remember my mom sending me down the block to get a loaf to have with our spaghetti. It was still warm when I got it home. Best Italian bread I ever had.
Patsy Miele – I am getting married on 9/20 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. I moved back from Dallas to Gettysburg, PA in 2006. I lived in Dallas for 19 years. I am lucky to have met a great guy and even luckier to have been able to retire at the age of 55. My fiance is retired as well.
Nilda – Great to hear from you. Mom is not doing well. I will be back in Brooklyn in about two weeks before I leave for Vegas. Say hi to Lilly for me.
Barbara Spencer – Nice to hear from you. Yes, Annette’s death affected my life as well. Her and Arlene were good friends of mine. We used to walk to school (PS 146) together almost every day). I used to have dinner at their house quite often. I am sorry I am going to miss the reunion. Talk to you soon.
Does anybody remember the Calciano family from 23rd street between 4th and 5th avenues and Mika who used to hang out by Rocco’s? Mika (very sadly) passed away at a very young age of a heart attack. I used to see her on the train quite often on my work to work. I remember going to her house (I think on 4th avenue & 19th street) and hanging out. She was a great friend.
Francesca Bruno – How are you? Do you remember Elizabeth Affisco (sp?) from PS 146)? She hung out with Lucille DeCanio, Bernadette, and there was another girl (forgot her name). They all new Deborah Brodbeck. Deborah, that is how I knew you.
