Hi to you too! The groups name was Misty. How could I forget that. I still have the photos that were taken by the Home Reporter when we played at the El Dorado in the winter of 1983. I remember the days of playing up at my father’s store, having all you guys come in and out. All the baseball games. What a big part of my past…My family and I are doing well. My son as I mentioned earlier is entering 8th grade this year. How are you and your family? How are you keeping yourself busy these days?
JOYCE CASTALDO
Hi to you! Glad to hear you are doing well. My sister Debbie and I hope to make it to the reunion.
This site is great…..
Bonavita girls….when you mentioned the twirling days..my sister Jolene did twirling for many years, we used to go to all the competions….I remember your mom and dad, my mom Lorraine was so happy that all you girls remembered her when she saw you all at your moms wake. She has many fond memories of your mom and dad.
My sisters, Laura and Jolene were know as the “Giordano Sisters” and sang in a couple of “TALENT SHOWS” at St. Johns.
I have so many great memories from St. Johns…my children grew up in New Jersey and I often tell them stories about Brooklyn. There was nothing like growing up in Brooklyn.
I married Bobby Banjany he was from 19th street, 6th and 7th avenue. We are married for 27 years with three children, 25, 22 and my last one who is 18 will be going off to college in the fall.
We miss you Terry…Terry is the cousin of the Perrottas that came from 27th street. We grew up with them so I have seen Terry and her family quite a bit over the years.
Keep the memories coming….. Judy
JUDY GIORDANO-BANJANY
You Mother and mine were friends forever. If I recall, they used to sing together when they were teenagers. Our parents were pretty close.
Your sister Jolene and I used to twirl together. I can remember our mothers coming with us to all the competitions. All those bus rides. We had a great deal of fun.
Of course, I remember when your sisters sang at the Talent Shows at St. Johns.
Karen B.
Glad to hear Gina and her family are doing well….My family is fine, have two wonderful granddaughters, (my daughters) Erin is10 and (my son’s) Liliana is 5. they grow so fast, where have all the years gone????
Anthony M…. was good to see you yesterday……
MARY ANN
I told Gina you were asking for her. She sends her regards. That is so wonderful about your 2 granddaughters.
The Bonavita offspring goes as follows: Donna has 1 boy (10yrs); I have 1 boy (13yrs); Debbie has 2 girls (16yrs and 12yrs) and 1 boy (13yrs); Gina as you know has 3 boys (9yrs and 6yrs twins) and 1 girl (4yrs); Vinny has 3 girls (11yrs; 6yrs and 9months) and 1 boy (5yrs). Nicholas will be celebrating his one-year wedding anniversary in September. I guess in a few years those numbers will also expand. Our brother’s and sister’s in law fit right in with this family.
TERRY ANGELO –
I WOULD LOVE TO GET IN TOUCH WITH MICHAEL SCHIRALLI. PLEASE GIVE HIM MY EMAIL ADDRESS:
[email protected]
I was in Brooklyn with Debbie and Janet this past Easter and Debbie and I went by Annie Schiralli’s house, but no one answered the door. Remember on halloween, Anne would give out boxes of pasta and tuna fish cans?
WE WANT THE GUZZO BROTHERS!
WE WANT THE GUZZO BROTHERS!
WHERE ARE YOU, JOE, JOHN AND VINNY? FESTINA, TELL THEM TO LOG ON.
To Francesca: Thanks for responding; it really does sound like you had a very very busy career. I guess the grass is always greener, because you sound like you kept yourself really involved. I am in private practice now, but most of my career I was a professor at Loma Linda University in S. California. That’s the Medical school that is most known for its infant heart transplant program (developed there). I have two daughters and a son-in-law who are physicians, trained there, and one of my sons-in-law is up for VP of finance. So that is HOME!!! But not home like Brooklyn. I don’t think you can ever forget (nor would I want to) growing up there, and I wish some of my old friends were on this blog too. I’d love to reconnect. I’ve semi-retired, and now am doing full-time private practice; while I was teaching, I did it part time. It can really be a drag (the business end of it), though I really do enjoy relating to the patients. You are right about Brooklyn giving you street smarts, which a lot of therapists don’t have. It enables you to really know people, and to think on your feet. So I have 2 girls, and 4 grandkids; the first one beginning first grade tomorrow. I’m having a harder time with that than her mother is!!!!! Go figure.
Remembering “Johnny Red’s” fruits and vegetables store turned hot and cold deli;
Barnies (husband and wife team) next door to Luigi’s pizza who made the BEST eggplant parm;
Danny the Butcher and Frank the Butcher (on the same block);
The Chicken Market on 20th Street (how it smelled);
Todo Marino’s Bar;
Nat’s Dry Cleaner;
Felix’s Restaurant on 18th Street & 5th Avenue;
Mike’s Bakery – remember when he started making pizza on certain days of the week? The Best! Than Luigi’s came along and you could buy two slices and a soda for under a dollar;
Casa Storta Restaurant (near 4th avenue on 21st Street (no menu – ate what he cooked for that day); Let’s not forget how the owner sat outside with his VICIOUS dogs;
GAMES WE PLAYED: Anyone for “Buck-Buck”, Stick Ball, Stoop Ball, Hand Ball, all played with Spaldings that Rocco sold and kept his stash right in the store-front window; Corks (played with metal bottle caps we so skillfully created with melted crayons; Hop Scotch, Tag.
TERRY & ANTHONY GAGLIARDI:
I just had a flashback of Sonny & Jeanette. First of all, I remember your mom & dad’s phone number on 22nd Street (768-7948) my mother would say “South 8”.
After all the weddings of your older brothers and sisters, everyone, and I mean everyone would come back to your house AFTER the reception and your parents did a full-blown after party catered by Jacques with endless trays of food. On occasion, I would help with the food and it just seemed like everyone was having such a great time. The after-party went on for hours. My mother, Florence, LOVE your mother so much………………she was a good friend.
KAREN BONAVITA:
IT’S SO GOOD TO HEAR FROM YOU, HONESTLY! YOU KNOW HOW I LOVE YOU AND GINA AND DONNA AND OF COURSE, MY BUDDY DEBBIE. We have reconnected, thanks to Janet Cavallo, and we keep in touch often. It’s like we never parted, honestly. Our lunch in Brooklyn was great and Debbie and I visited the old neighborhood and even purchased Kielbasa at White Eagles.
I love seeing all the old names. I wish I could go to the reunion on September 21st at Terry’s house. It’s going to be just wonderful.
Be well for now, Karen. Love ya and talk to you soon.
Debbie, I’ll call you this week, Chuck. Hey buddy, remember when we watched Princess Diana’s wedding very, very early in the morning?
Hi All! Oh Boy Terry must be freakng out!!!! She has not been on since thursday!
Twiggy – what do you mean you are not going to be at the reunion?! We need people from our generation. I can’t even remember how long it has been since I have seen you guys. From seeing each other everyday to so many years that have gone by.
Michael is doing great! I have not seen him in awhile. my sisters and I did go to a couple of his plays in the city. He looks great! Who else do you see? don’t you live near Diane from Seaferes?
Clotilda – where are you????
I think my sister needs to rent a hall for this reunion!
Christina:
How did you remember the Casa Storta??? that’s amazing and Sonny and Jeanettes phone number too, Your the best memory jogger on the blog. Did you read Geri’s entry?
How is my Tommy doing? Give him a hug for me.
Karen Bonavita,
Yes, Edith Ann, she was a wonderful person. I do remember her and Jeanne laughing all the time and they got along so well. I remember Jeanne feeling so bad when Edith Ann passed away. They finally meet again in heaven, two wonderful, good girls.
Gagliardi’s:
I confirm my sisters comment about my mother (florence) loving Jeanette she also liked Tesse very much, she loved playing cards with her and they had lots of laughs together.
Sonny, your dad would give me a double scoop, pile high ice cream cone from the candy store.
Michael, Didn’t know you work with Jamesy when are you both retiring.
Clara & Rocco Jr. I remember you both in a double stroller as babies in front of the candy store. Glad your doing well and hear your mother is still teaching and doing well, how nice.
Guzzo brothers, Every girls in brooklyn heart throb! Bobby & Ralphie Parisi too.
Nilda, Nice to see you this past weekend. Still looking young & hip as you always did.

LORI ANGELO,
I would love to come to the reunion, but I’ve been to New Jersey so much in the past year and don’t know if I can swing another weekend, but I’ll sure try. It would be great to see everyone and get some pictures of the old neighborhood gang.
I found a picture of Michael on the internet……………..he does look great. I wish he would come onto this blog. I want to talk to him. I have the greatest memories of him. He was always into directing and making the greatest shows in his house. What an awesome guy. I LOVED HIM!
Where does Diane live in Florida? I’m in Weston which is near Fort Lauderdale and Miami.
Would love to see you again.
CASTALDO SISTERS:
My fondest memories of your mother was that she used to make me split pea soup because she knew I loved it. She and Mrs. Drubinski would have a competition and I would be the judge.
You were also the only family on fifth avenue who owned a swimming pool and your mom would invite me over often to play. It was so nice of her and I had so much fun in your house.
Love and hugs to all of you.
DENISE FREEMAN:
Wow! It is wonderful that our age group is starting to appear on this site. If my memory serves me correct, you were cousins with Paul DePinto, am I right?
Where are you living? I have been in Florida for 8 years now. My son Thomas is 7 and my daughter, Julia Grace is 2-1/2 years old. Today my son was to begin school, but tropical storm Faye is keeping him home one more day (POOR ME).
So wonderful that we’re all connecting again. Be well for now and I’ll talk to you soon.
DENISE & LISA CRESCI:
My heartfelt condolences on the passing of Frankie. I remember his beautiful face very well. When did he pass away?
I will keep you in my prayers, Denise as this is the greatest loss of all for you. I remember when my father died and my mother was very sad, but when Johnny Boy died, it was much worse for her to deal with. So please try and take comfort in knowing that Frankie is resting peacefully and that your Mom & Dad have taken him in their arms and will protect him for all eternity.
LOVE,
CHRISTINA
AUDREY,
WE WERE CLASSMATES! It’s me, Christina Oliva. Did you have Ms. Hayes and Ms. Bruno in 7th grade. Remember, Janet Cavallo, Debbie Bonavita, Helen Van???????, Cynthia, Robert Seglecki, Joseph, Charlie, Terry Gambale, Rosina, etc.
Audrey, I remember going to one of your birthday parties and your mother made the most delicious macaroni salad with tuna fish in it (why are all my fond memories about food?)
Write back!

Ralph M..
Hi Ralph, I live in Bethpage out on the island….been here since 1975….
I guess you mean Sal’s Brother Joey, No they haven’t talked to me anymore since before Sal passed away, but they are all in Port Ritchey, Florida……I do speak to his older brother often…..
No I am not in touch with anyone from the neigborhood anymore, just Tony M….his brother married my cousin, and I keep in touch with Sally Ears…I did speak to Fran about 10 years ago….last time I saw her was in 1982 when Sal had all his friends here for a reunion…she married Al Passaretti and Al was one of Sal’s friend…I told her to keep in touch, but she never did….she is living in Staten Island….. I don’t know about the reunion, it’s a long ride for me to do by myself….I missed the one 10 years ago, because Sal was sick….
Is any of your music available? and where would I be able to find it…
Good Morning to All…
JANEK –
Glad to hear you are doing well; sounds like you married an Italian girl. How can you go wrong? And happy to hear about your beautiful family. God Bless You All with a long, healthy, happy life!
I never kept in touch with anyone from the park. I left Brooklyn
in 1976 on a corporate relocation to New Jersey. My friends who I’ve stayed in touch with (who are also on this blog) are Carol (she did hang with us in the Park – her boyfriend was Chucky DeVito – had red road runner – we’d race down by the docks), Terry (the social director on this site; only kidding), Judy… The last time I saw them was at my wedding in Sept 2004 – but we do talk and email. Now with this Site, we have another way to stay in touch.
I know you asked about Sally Savarese, and I’m sorry to bring this bad news. I just learned a few weeks ago that he passed away
(think it was 2000 or 2002). He had cancer.
Regarding Nancy Auletti – I know her daughter checks this site occassionally; she/Nancy doesn’t personally do email. (Her daughter, also named Nancy, stumbled on this site accidentally, and that is how she reconnected Nancy, her mother, to us).
I will pass your message onto Nancy (Peter’s daughter). I don’t
have any pictures of Peter that are handy – but I am in the process
of packing boxes since I am moving someday… And I will check through my pictures. When I find some I will have copies made
for you. Take care!
Hi Patsy Miele,
I don’t know if you remember me but I remember you. I’m guessing you must have hung out with my younger sister Christina. Good to see you here on the blog. After about 40 years, we got to see your Aunt Carol again, at my sisters wake. The blog is a miracle. I’m hearing that your Aunt Pat, will be coming to the reunion. I can’t wait to see her.. If I can get there that is, I might have to be away on business.
Janek – check johnnyclams01
Patsy…is Stephanie your cousin….I went to school with her. I got to see her at the St. John’s reunion back in 2000 or 2001…Tell her I said hi….Judy
TO MARIE CRSIPINO HI YES, TONY ORLANDO IS THE SON OF DANNY THE BUTCHER WHO WAS MY GRANFATHER ON MY MOTHER’S SIDE TONY IS MY UNCLE I SPEAK TO HIM OFTEN HE LIVES IN ARIZONA FOR THE LAST 2 YEARS 🙂
Lori Angelo,
HEY, how are you! I was thinking the same thing as you when you said your sister Terri has to probably rent a hall for this reunion.
I saw your sister Terri at Jeannes funeral and God you both look so much alike. I am glad to be in touch with you. Lori didn’t you work at Seafarers, yes! in the filing dept right. PAULINE BUCCELLO, never wanted to file she used to say she was too old and make us do it. How about Francis Klaise, oh my God so funny back then.
Chris, I remember miss locamasino, playing the piano and giving us music lessons to sing in church.
There is something to be said for all those nuns at St. Johns, they may have been very strict with us but they certainly taught us the meaning of respect in church, discipline and gave us the very foundations and teachings of our religion and did it quite well. Nobody was out of line with them! Didn’t agree with everything they did though, I got my lumps too for not being in church one Sunday, that was the 60’s nuns, we all survived!
Judy Giordano- I went to school with Jolene, we were in the same classes together in St. Johns. She was very nice . I don’t know if she would remember me I also remember going to St. Roccos to roller skate and the bazaar.
Patsy Miele, the Oliva’s and Miele’s go way back when! I remember your grandmothers dog Lady the little chiwahwa (spelled it wrong). I saw Carol at Jeanne’s funeral she looks wonderful. Say hi to Angela and Charlie for me. I have a picture of your grandfather Charlie confirming my brother Jamesy and pictures of Pat, Carol and Jamesy and Anthony together when they were young. I bumped into Roseanne down Wall Street quite a few years back, nice to hear from you and Carol on this site.
MARYANN –
Hi – want to acknowledge your ‘shout out to me’
Think you said you “know me”
1. from Carol – is this the Carol that married Gene Cassone from 18th St? and (Can’t recall her maiden name)
2. from Phyllis – my sister (Phyllis Bruno Scotto)? and
3. Ruthie – is this Ruth Vivenzio who has written on this Site?
Trying to place you — and I talked to my sister to get some help.
Sounds like we may have mutual acquantances/friends.
Either way, I look forward to seeing you in person if you’re at the
Reunion.
Re: knowing me through RUTH
Hi Ruth if you are there)…
I see you went to PS 146 (I was starting to think I was the only one on this Site who went to Public School).
My sister seemed to recollect you playing Mother Goose
in a school play (you could have been in the 6th Grade). If that was you, I was one of the Kindergardeners/1st Graders who played your children. Mother Goose sang a song “Little Ones
Come to My Side.”
See the 60’s and 70’s (80’s…etc…) haven’t affected my brain and recollection….
Well, I’m not sure if you were the Ruth who was Mother Goose –
just thought I’d give it a shot…
RALPH MARSELLA
I know some of what you have been through in the past years. My Mother told me some over the years. I am sure your daughters are beautiful. How many grandchildren do you have? If I make it to the
Reunion, I will bring the photos with me. Otherwise, at some point, send me your email and I will send to you. Glad you’r still doing music.
CHRISTINA OLIVA (TWIGGY) HAGIN
TWIGGY — Debbie, of course, comes first but you love me more than Donna and Gina, admit it. I am amazed that you remember so much. I can still hear you singing Sweet, Sweet Loretta or kicking your legs like the Rockettes, saying your name over and over. Or the nights we sat around my parents dinner table talking and eating as fast as we could. How could I forget St. John’s music teacher. I always wondered how for such a big woman, Miss Logamessina made it up the stairs to the choir loft. Amazing. I was hoping to see you on one of your visits. I am so sad about Jeanne.
GERALDINE (OLIVA) B
I’m sure Jeanne and Edithann are together again.
LORI ANGELO FIORITO
I remember your Mother coming to the door, Trick-or-Treating on Halloween some times dressed as a clown collecting food for the poor. She was such a good person. She always made me laugh.
LUCILLE –
I enjoyed reading about your interesting life and your wonderful family. I hope you survived your grandchild’s first day at 1st Grade.
I understand… While I don’t have children, I am an over-protective pet-parent of two Yorkies, Faith and Frasier (and a cat named Bella who came with the marriage). When my husband and I travel, they have their own “nanny” checking in on them three times a day; and she leaves me a message at night. Yes, I’m nuts – and I don’t care what people think at this stage of my life.
I understand how the business end of what you do can detract from the real intent. And these days there is so much to contend with, e.g., insurance….
I look forward to hearing more from you. Try not to feel like you don’t know too many folks here… Neither do I.. But it’s a good place to meet new friends… Just like the two of us!!!! Take Care!
Hi PATSY MIELE…..
It’s been such a long time. Wanted to say a quick Hi. Got to go for now. Glad to see you are doing well…. I will get back to you the next time I visit the site. God Bless!
RE: REUNION 9/21
Karen Dritto – are you ‘managing’ the attendance in Terry’s absence? Do you know how many people responded?
I recall someone mentioning reserving a ‘hall’ — it may be something to consider (and not at the last minute, if possible).
My concern for all is the PARKING SITUATION:
Where will 50+ people (at the very least) park? I know Terry’s neighborhood, as with most of Staten Island – there are many driveways. Car-pooling encouraged.
Just throwing the parking concern out there.
ROCCO, JR……..
WHERE ARE YOU? MISS YOUR HISTERICAL COMMENTS!
Franny Bruno,
Hi, I am Jamesy’s younger sister. You were friends with Grace Coen, I was very young but remember you a little bit walking along 5th Avenue with Grace. You and Grace were always dressed so nicely and you had long black hair if I remember correctly. Are you still in touch with my brother? I wish he were posting on the blog and hope to see you at the reunion. I think your right about a possible parking problem for 50+ people, if that many attend.
Karen Dritto: I will wait to see the definate location of the reunion on the blog, please count me in right now to attend the reunion if a invitation is extended to me. Thank you.
TO CLOTILDA I AM MAMIE ORLANDO’S OLDEST GRANCHILD. MY NAME IS PATSY I AM SURE WE PROBABLY MET SOMEWHERE DOWN THE ROAD. THANK YOU FOR SAYING THE KIND THINGS YOU SAID ABOUT MY GRANDMOTHER. SHE WAS A GREAT LADY. I WAS BLESSED WITH 2 GOOD HEARTED GRANMOTHERS. MY GRANDMOTHER CONNIE MIELE WAS ALSO VERY GIVING. SHE ALSO GAVE WHATEVER SHE HAD. TOO BAD WE DON’T APPRECIATE UNTILE ITS TOO LATE. THANX AGAIN PATSY 🙂
Christina- Your the best bloger. How the hell did you remember the music teacher.. How about this one… What was the name of the ART Teacher. I remember we would trace dry leaves in the fall. I can’t think of her name. Geri, your memory is awesome too, Connie Miele’s dog Lady- how did you remember that?!!How about that Carol M.
GERALDINE….
Of Course I remember YOU! And the whole family. I mentioned in
some earlier blogs that Carol and I spent much time at your house
on 20th & 4th, when we were young. I remember all of you so well, especially mom. And of course, all the years my being friends with Jamsey.
Yes, Grace Coen and I walked the Avenue many times “dressed nicely,” in our lifetime. Funny that’s what you remember. And yes,
I had long black hair. (I was a “red-head” for 30 years and it all fell out during chemo. When it grew back – it was a black afro – so I kept it black again – after all these years.)
Re: JAMSIE… yes we’ve been in touch, only in the past few months (after 30 years). We’ve talked and emailed. And are planning
to meet for lunch in the City over the next few weeks, for a
‘private reunion’ before 9/21. He sent me an email on Friday
saying he ran into my childhood friend of mine, who I have been
looking for, for years – another Park Slopian. Sure this will
turn into another Reunion Blog.
Geraldine, while I have extended my sympathies to Anthony (on this blog) and in calls to Jamsey – please accept my heartfelt condolences re Jeannie. I cannot even think about how I would be if I lost my sister. I know that you were/are such a close and supportive family, who has always had so many challenges. And you all overcame so much.
You are a wonderful family and I’ll keep you in my prayers. Keep the Faith! God will bless you with strength to move forward! And Continue to Bless You with Friends to Help Along the Way!
Patsy Miele Kirk,
Your uncle Tony went with my friend Chickie from 19th Street.
I think she was in the 10th Grade at the time and was CRAZY about him. He was so cute then.
I will mention to Chickie (who lives in SI, NY and is moving to the Poconos soon) that Tony is living in Arizona – I know she will scream when she hears about this.
I told her to go on this blog, but I don’t think she has time right now, since she watches her granddaughter (1 yr old).
I remember your grandfather fondly.
Marie
Lori:
