  2. Hi Michael G.

Glad to hear you’re living in a retirement community! I hope Margie doesn’t have to walk as far to the pool as she and I did to get to Sunset Park.

    Stay well.

  3. ITCHER,
I AM TERRY ANGELO AND THERE IS A TERRY GAGLIARDI. SHE IS MUCH YOUNGER THAN ME. I DO NOT KNOW WHO YOU ARE BUT THANK GOD YOU WROTE IN. THEY KEPT ON LOOKING FOR YOU. IM 57 I THINK YOU ARE YOUNGER. MY SISTER LORI IS THE BABY OF THE FAMILY 46 YRS. OLD. MAYBE YOU KNOW HER AND CLOTILDA. LOVE TERRY ANGELO

  4. PAMELA, i am so happy you are on here! My God I may not have too many memories but I sure do remember all the time we spent together! I lived at your house and yes, your mom fed me bones! Patricia gave me my first eye brow tweezing, we thought my mom would have a fit! We had so many good times hanging out. The movies, Earthquake! The school let us use the buidling after school to film! Too funny. We sure did keep ourselves busy! Email me [email protected] We can catch up! Send my love to your sisters and paul and your mom of course.

Clotilda – where is Gina moving to and where from. God I haven’t seen or heard from her in years!

Anthony you keep asking. It seemed to work the first time!

Karen Dritto – Too funny, I ran into Rocco a couple of years ago and he gave me his card. It has been sitting on my desk all that time. I just emailed him last night to tell him about this blog.

  5. PATTY NEGRI – not sure if I know you (probably would recognize you from the neighborhood – I defintely know the name; and think I remember Negri’s Bar????) either way — I have to say that your comment regarding the Barbie cloths and your dad warmed my heart.

I remember being with my dad in Germaines one night and I
asked for a Barbie doll (we sometimes got to pick out an
inexpensive toy or book). He too said that we couldn’t
afford it. While I felt bad, I felt worse (especially now as an
adult) about how bad HE felt.

Till this day I very rarely ask for anything (fortunately I was/am able
to just get it on my own). I never forgot that night – and I’ll say it
    once again – – –

WE HAD THE BEST PARENTS WHO DID THE BEST THEY COULD, WITH WHAT THEY HAD. AND THAT IS WHY WE ALL ARE THE
PEOPLE WE ARE TODAY! I think we can all see the ‘common’ traits, values, unselfishness, etc. that we all have – given our childhoods in Park Slope. (Just an observation from a trained “Behaviorist”
    reading these comments.)

    P. S. I did eventually get my Barbie doll.

    God Bless!

  6. I just turned 65 and I STILL live on 22nd St between 5th & 6th. Remember the White Eagle Bakery on 5th and 22nd ? Negri’s bar across the street ? Lanter’s liquor store on 5th & 20th ? The bar/pizzeria on 6th & 20th ? We still have Atlas Savings, Lenny’s Pizza, and several other things. I had a brother John and sisters Stephy, Cathy, Gisele, and venetia. My parents were Camille & Gordon. Vera Lentini is over 80 and STILL lives across the street from me. My best friend was (and still is ) Armando Paone from 19th Street below 6th Avenue. We graduated St. John’s in ’57. Remember Sister Lioba ? We were altar boys (remember father Sclafani (“Prayer plus work equals success !”)? I still go to the movies at the Sanders (refuse to say Pavilion). The Globe is knocked down. Stavenhagen’s pawn shop is gone. Germains rice pudding ? We used to call Clark’s candy store Gannin’s, or something like that (7th Ave, between 19th & 20th). We first lived at 582 7th Avenue (20th & 21st). Where are you Joycie Boriso, Maureen Ryan, Paul Spletzer (landlord’s son), Marilyn Sands ? We had Milmoe’s Grocery on 7th & 21st, and Wilkowski’s Grocery on 7th & 20th (still there. My first job in 1957). I wanna go BACK !!! Love to all you South Slopers !

  7. Hi to everyone,
Wow! It’s been several weeks since I checked this site. I’ve just been enjoying the last of these lazy, hazy days of summer vacation.
School begins sooner that I want to think.
There are so many new names– some names are familiar but I can’t seem to match them up to a face ( Patti Negri)
You said you were 55? Did you go to St. John’s?
My dad says he remembers a Caroline Negri – I believe he said he went to school with her!
Your barbie doll story is so touching. I know we all have a similar story as most of us came from modest means.
Others, I’m sure I don’t know – like the Bottlettes?
You must be a younger group.
Anyway, Hi to Michael Gagliardi, you, I do remember as I’m sure we were in every grade together in St. John’s.
Hi to your wife Margie. My husband grew up in the same apt. building as her (Garden Apts.)
Signing off for now – can’t waste too much of what’s left of summer!

  20. Patty Negri,

Oh those Barbie doll stories!! I have an unforgetable one!
Of course, like everyone in our wonderful neighborhood, our parents struggled, but managed for sure. I can’t exactly remember our age at the time, but one summer afternoon, my sister Louise and I were playing barbie dolls in the backyard. The few outfits we did have for them, and by the way, handmade by us, required a barbie case to hold the garments…….of course…….no case. We used a carboard box and hung a string across the box to hang the clothes. We were soooo happy!!
During that particular day, our father called us from the upstairs window to come upstairs. Of course, our first reaction was….we’re in trouble!! As we opened the door, there stood two beautiful barbie doll cases on the kitchen table. My father used his small allowance to purchase the cases. My sister & I will never ever forget that day. Our sister Susan was wonderful…….she went with our dad to the store that day…..she didn’t get anything!!!!

  21. this is so unbelievable. denise and lisa i am so very sorry for your loss. i feel terrible. my prayers are with you. i love you both.

  22. Itcher: I’m confused, is that a name? If you were a bottlette I shoujld know you, because I kept very close watch on my sister as well.
What’s your first name, Last name, family of origin, your associates etc..

Lucia, is this too heavy an investigation? Although I’m beginning to recall the name-
Itcher Did everyone call you Itcher-??

  23. ANTHONY YES ITCHER IS VERY REAL AND I WAS VERY MUCH A BOTTLETTE ASK YOUR SISTER .. GERALDINE WAS A BOTTLETTE BUT WASN’T AROUND ALOT AFTER SHE MET JOEY DELEO DO YOU REMEMBER HIM BIG BROTHER? HENU AND JANEK THEY MOSTLY HUNG OUT IN PARK ON 23 RD.

  24. Hi Itcher,
I remember your brothers Henu (we called him Henry) and Janek.
Good looking boys – blond hair and blue eyes. Last name was Chapla (?) I think Henry walked with a slight ‘limp.’

We all hung out in 23rd St. Park, as you said. Henu/Henry was good friends with Guy Spinato, Peter Auletti, and Danny Lorenzo (my boyfriend at the time). Carol M – I’m sure you remember Henry.

Itcher – How are your brothers doing?

  25. Itcher-OMG-NowIdoy remember you- now that you mentioned your brothers- and Ottos restruant that’s a memory- thank you for clarifying that. Yes you were a bottlette for sure. and yes Iremember when Geri- hooked up with Joey Deleo.

  27. Yes Itcher, I got the family straight now. Your brothers were adorable and ‘good boys.’

Glad you remember Danny – yes he was a cute bopper with a
slight stutter. We were together for 5 years and then we he came back from Viet Nam it didn’t work. We were so ‘young.’ (Guess I
    was young)

I keep trying to find out if he passed away (heard the rumor without confirmation). I have so many pictures of him, especially
when he was in Viet Nam. I want to send them to his
family; children might want them. He married Annette DeLeo
in the early 70’s. Anyone have any info?

Itchcher – if you read above, you will see that Peter Auletti’s daughter Nancy (Auletti Loughran) wrote in. You might want
to tell your brothers and cousin. Thanks to this site, we’ve
been in touch after 30 years. Little Nancy is planning to surprise
her mom (Peter’s wife) with a visit from me (possibly this Friday). Take care!

  28. Hi to everyone who mentioned my name… especially Michael Michel. I’m now living in N.E.Pa. but Brooklyn of the ’50’s and ’60’s will always be where my heart is.

I had a major stroke a few years back which left me paralyzed on my left side; it also effected my eyesight which makes it hard to read and write.

I want to put my re:s out to Terry… you seem to be the glue that holds this joint together. I also want to say hi to Bobby and Judy Occhigrasso(sp?), Lucia and Camille, Ralphie Marsella, my cousin Anthony who turned me on to this list and who ever else I grew up with (I had lots of trouble reading all the posts.

Well my hand is getting tired so I’m gonna cut this short. If I missd anyones name please bare with me. It was good to hear from you all.

    Sally Ears

  29. Still looking for any information regarding the whereabouts of Dorothy Biscuiti and her Mom, Ann. Eleanor if you are reading this please post. Thank you

  30. Hello,
I can not believe this web site exists. Therese Gallino just phoned me at work to share. It is a blast from the past. I can not believe how many of the posts are people I remember. I am sure you remember me, I am one of 4 girls who lived over Rocco’s candy store.
I am deeply sadden to learn about my childhood friend Jeanne Olivia. My condolences.
Denise and my sister Joyce are good friends…I will let her know about Frankie.
Another sad note…if you remember Vinny Aversano, his oldest child, a son passed away about a month ago. It was a motorcycle accident…very sad.
Life is not easy…sometimes you just wish you were a kid again and your only concern was how fast you could get outside and hang out with your friends.
    M

  31. Hi all,

Just curious………can someone define “bottlette” for me? I’ve seen it referred to many times!

Frankie G. – this is Vera’s daughter. I absolutely LOVED visiting your family when you lived a few doors up from us. You were all very talented in so many ways. I admired your family. Your mother was a wonderful person and she was a very good friend to my mom. Hope your sisters and brother are doing well.

Francesca – you said a mouthful about our parents – they were all from the same wonderful mold.

  32. hi all a bottlette was a girl who belonged to a gang of girls who hung out on 21 street. they got their name by braking bottles afther a night of partying .My sister theresa should know.

  33. Hi Louise,
I am Rosalind and Carol Castaldo’s sister Maria. We also have a sister Joyce. As for the Bottlegang – they were a group of kids who hung out near Annacarante’s Funeral Home on 21st and 5th ave. They drank beer and always left the bottles around hence the nickname “the bottlegang”. The girls were nicknamed “bottlette’s”.

  34. hi all,

  37. To Francesca Sarcini: I loved what you said about all the parents in Park Slope — it is so very true and truly did make all of us what we are today. Additionally, many of the parents always encouraged us to do better than they did, and it is very surprising to see how many people did get an education and make “something” of ourselves, though from modest means in childhood. What behavioral science did you go into? I too am in that field; I have a PhD in clinical psychology. I was not from your particular neighborhood, but only blocks away. I keep skimming the blogs to see if anyone gets on that I know. I’m jealous (ha) of how many of you have reunited, and I wish that it could happen for all the people in my neighborhood too!! Every now and again, I come across a name I recognize – but don’t know. All your comments bring back so many wonderful Brooklyn memories and I thank God for the background I came from (again, though modest). Keep the blog going, and I hope no one feels I’m being a voyeur (LOL)!!!!

  38. SALLY EARS,

AFTER A ROTTEN DAY HEARING THE BAD NEWS ABOVE ABOUT DENISE CRESCI’S SON IT WAS A BETTER DAY WHEN I TURNED ON THE COMPUTER AND SAW YOUR NAME. THE LEGEND OF 21ST STREET. 42. Wow! it seems like if you miss a day or two of the blog there is so much infor to take in I actually have to take little notes so I don’t forget to respond. Forgive me I’m blabbering. Long day. Above all Denise and Lisa my heartfelt sympathy to you both. Tomorrow is a holy day and I will offer my mass up for Frankie. Also Maria C. I definitely remember Vinny Aversano. What a shame. Please send him my condolences. Everyday is so precious.

Frankie Guerrasio good to see your name on the blog. I remember your family with found memories. How is everyone? Is Kathy still in Italy? Where is John living? I remember having a crush on him. Does he have a family of his own? My mom speaks of you fondly.

Louise I remember the Barbie Doll case story as if it was yesterday. I don’t know who was more excited shopping for the cases Daddy or me. It’s nice to remember special moments.

    Patti N. You’re right,

that girls name was Jeannete. She was “interesting”. Why did we call it the witches house? Was she mean. Can’t remember why.

Paulie you always make me laugh. Thanks. Time to go nite nite. Sweet dreams to all.

  43. Hi Sally,

So sorry to hear about your stroke, hang in there you will recover, My Mom had taken a stroke at an early age, she recovered from it, she had the symptons as you are describing. That was many, many years ago and they have made so much progress since then. Hang in there you’ll do it too. How I loved your Mom, Aunt Ida and Uncle Benny that’s what I called them you guys where like family, I always remeber going to your house, since we where neighbors for alot of years. I don’t know if you remember or not your Mom was my sponser for confirmation I still have the charm braclet she gave me when she wnent to Italy for a vacation. I still remember those days in Brooklyn, I wouldn’t have wanted to grow up anywhere else. My brother Bob is doing well but I miss him dearly since I live in Florida since 1991, I see him occasionally when I go up to New York, Since my brother won’t fly (sorry Bob) I have to fly up to see him. Well please take care of yourself. I will be praying for your speedy recovery.

  44. Thanks, Terry. Wow, it’s almost midnight where you are; here it’s only almost 9 and I’m just getting to look on my computer after all day. You are so lucky to be having a reunion. No, my husband’s name is not Ricky, but I did work with a Charlie Brown (Charly Brown and Lucy), Ha.

  45. MY DEEPEST SYMPATHIES GO OUT TO DENISE ON THE LOSS OF HER SON. I WILL KEEP U YOUR FAMILY AND YOUR SON IN MY PRAYERS. GOD BLESS U ALL. SO SO SORRY.
