Lucia, Glad you are going to reunion. Toni told me about Ray. I can’t believe he died 2 yrs. ago and Georgine never told Toni. I think Georgine might be here during the time of the reunion. I’m pretty sure she is going to the Catalano wedding. Camille, said she will try to make the wedding. Would be great to see everyone. San
Terry I did tell you I was going to your reunion. I thought I did. I hope you have a big house lol. Sounds like everyone will be there. I will email you about what I might bring or what you want me to bring.
Terry, I will bring whatever pictures I have of school. I think everyone should dig into their pictures and bring some. I don’t have too many of the neighborhood. Santina
Maria Panetta Rumola
Hi my name is Debbie Brodbeck Siciargo. Terry Sherman mentioned me a little while back. I told her I was so surprised when I saw your name but didn’t really think it was the same Rumola until you mentioned your husbands name was Larry. I’m so sorry to hear of his passing. I knew at that point that it was the same Rumola that I knew as a young girl of 13. My first boyfriend was Phil Rumola. Never did I think I would come across his name again. How is he? I’m almost afraid to ask when you hear of so many untimely passings. If all is well please send him my regards. He may not even remember me. I lived on 19th street in the apartment house. I don’t know how the boys from 11th street ended up on 19th street but they did. The year was about 1964. Oh boy that sounds so long ago. I even remember that at the time that we were friends his father passed away.
Well Marie please pass the info along. It was nice chatting with you. I hope we can meet at Terry’s reunion on 9/21. Bye,
Debbie.

Hi Patty,
That’s some story about darting into the street and not looking for cars. Thankfully you learned your lesson and moved on to more conventional games! On the sneak, we did join in on the buck-buck game, but we got hell if my father caught us. He didn’t seem to think it was “lady-like.” I do remember skateboarding together and roller-skating (with the key around my neck) and definitely at St. Rocco’s. Annie and I absolutely loved to play with our Barbie dolls. I’m sure you joined us. Even when we were 13, we would discreetly retire to the basement (well……cellar) and enjoy dressing our dolls. We had Ken, too! God forbid anyone (friends) knew we were still playing at that age! Eventually, we put them aside. Then, one day our mom gave everything away! We were devastated. I wanted to pass them along to my children (who turned out to be three sons.)
We loved being with you too, Patty. We never knew what to expect when we hung out with each other, but I know it was great fun. We stayed outside for HOURS when we had huge snowstorms. We built igloos and played house! How did we stay out so long? Now, I’m always cold!
Do you remember Patty & Susie who lived in the tennement houses a few doors up from me? They were so poor and we all felt sorry for them. Eventually, they moved and the tennements were torn down. There was another girl down the block, across the street from me who used to put on plays for the neighborhood. I believe she was tall and a little older than us. I can’t remember her name. Maybe my sisters can help if they read this. We practiced for hours in her yard. How about Danny Sanchez who lived next door to the couple who owned a boxer named Bruno (I think.) There are so many memories it’s unbelievable. My brain hurts so I’m taking a break.

Hey Mike Gagliardi,
Good to see you on the blog. I didn’t realize you work with my brother James. Good to hear you’re well. I remember the Bird sisters so well. Tell Margie I send my regards and thanks for the condolences.
Ralphie Marsella,
The Gridiron was the place to be. How is Viggie doing. Every once in a while we have reuniouns with, Bobbie Corbett, Jessie, Pat Morello, Richie Muscatello, Thomas Ischia etc. Corbett always has a surprise guest come.. A year or so ago, he invited Sid and Denise. At the last go round I hear Rocco Sr’s nephew Mickey came. It’s too bad I wasn’t there that night. I remember so well you guys singing acapella on the corner of 19th street and 5th ave. Against that wall, where we played Johnny on a Pony. Funny, I don’t remember seeing Terry, Carol, Grace or anyone else at the Gridiron, I guess Iwas too spaced out with Jessie, Claudio, and the slightly younger faction.
Could someone get Joey Guzzo on the blog? He belongs here with us.
Terry and Lori-
If I keep asking for Joey Guzzo, do you think he’ll come on like Patty Negri finally did?
Hi Carol good to see you back..
What’s up Paul?
Anthony,
joey guzzo joey guzzo where are you…lol
I know i remember a guzzo older than me in st. johns.
The Gridiron the best times of my life with franny, carol, judy, gay, your brother.
Franny,
I sent an email to a friend that lives near frankie tedesco. They are best friends. i told her to give him my email and tell him we are having a reunion. Would love to see him and gerard.
Anthony,
Jessie.. was he the jessie that lived on 5th ave and his brother basil or what the hell was his name. he was my age or one year older. He lived across the street from my Dad’s store. He was a funny guy. Where is he now. Judy is suppose to tell Patty M. and roe about the reunion and Anthony M. If you talk to him let him know and the rest of the Orlandi’s. love Terry
Patty Negri, I’m still laughing to myself about our phone call.
AND
Patty, Jesus Christ, If I was your father I would have kept you home for the rest of your life.. What kind of game was that, running in the street without looking!- but, these are the things that made you so very special. I should not be the one to be talking, I played every form of Russian Roulette with my life too. I’m still doing it..
Terry:
Jessie Viggnapiano- is Robert Viggie’s younger brother- He was my age and we grew up together joined at the hip.. He still lives in Bay Ridge but I hear he’s moving upstate if not already.
Has anyone contacted Joey Guzzo? Lol
HI MIKEY GAGS how is everyone ,i ask terry about you guys all the time, im so happy for kristen, michael i remember like yesterday when you guys brought kristen to her dorm at iona for college and then came bye your mom and dads house, margie was inside crying how sad she was that kristen left for college i felt so bad for margie. now on the other hand i remember my brother anthony calling me 3 way with margie on the other line to tell me what little michael used to tell her(when you where still living in staten island) he used to say ” marge what are we doing today going for bagels we do the same thing everyday” lol . yes michael i do miss 22nd st i miss your mother and father so much (and sonny guc), and seeing all of you guys when you came to visit. remember the night there was a mix up with the car keys i think you took your mothers by accident OH MY GOD YOUR FATHER WAS FLIPPING OUT “JEAN FIND THOSE KEYS, JEAN SOMEBODY’S GONNA DRIVE THE CAR JEAN” and i think you had your mothers car key in your pocket lol. david said hi, HI MARGIE take care talk to you soon.

Michael G – it’s Karen, Margaret Dritto (Hickey’s) youngest sister. I remember when you pulled her hair and how angry my father was! Someone asked about Rocco Agoglia. I see him frequently, we live near each other. I gave him this site. When I see him again, I’ll tell him to get on it.
I know some of you have had trouble with the attachment for the reunion. Let me know if you couldn’t open it or didn’t get it and I’ll send it again. Give me your email addresses.
I gotta run – be back another day.
Karen Dritto

Louise,
Those igloos were soooo warm! Yes I do remember Patti and Susie. We all played together and I think their grandfather kept pigeons. One day, Susie asked me to go with her to the chicken place on 20th street to slaughter a few pigeons for her grandfather’s dinner. I began screaming when I saw their heads cut off – the owner promptly threw me out.
I believe the playwright down the street was called Jeanette (tall, blonde, Polish). She was a few years older and a bit eccentric (which I liked). Danny’s name sounds familiar but I can’t place him. The boxer I do remember. Do you recall the mysterious house that we called the witches house? Do you remember Dr. Friedman on 22nd and 4th? He delivered me and always threatened to adopt me because, as my mom always loved to remind me, she was sad that I wasn’t a boy. Once when I was about five I had a high fever. After getting a painful shot of penicillin, I cursed at Dr. Friedman and he just waved at me and smiled. He and his wife, a nurse, were wonderful people who worked side by side their entire lives. I remember when his wife died, he followed her a month or two later. They had met in a concentration camp and wanted to retire in Israel but never made it. He would always tell me that when they moved to Israel, they were taking me with them. I don’t think they were able to have children, and it really bothered him that my mother cried when I was born because she was disappointed. True story!
I had a Ken doll too. What about Midge? Remember the expensive clothing and other accessories? I’ll never forget one evening – my parents and my sister and I were in E.J. Korvettes getting an appliance that my mom needed. Marianne and I saw some Barbie clothes and asked my father if we could have them. He explained how he didn’t have the money and then he started to cry. We hugged him and told him we didn’t care, and we never asked for anything again.
Today I was given a new student, age 12, who shakes with fear because she cannot read or write. Her mom, while on drugs, kept the girl out of school for years and finally lost custody of her. The girl now lives with her dad, the better parent, who’s had five DWI’s.
When I think about how loving and selfless my parents were – I am humbled. My heart breaks for children who will never know that.
I’m exhausted, that must be why I’m so melancholy.
I wish I were back in that igloo!
Anthony Oliva,
I’m still laughing too. And I can’t believe your voice sounds exactly the same as when you were 27!
I still haven’t spoken to my sister Rita about you yet. I’ll bet she’ll have a lot of fun stories to tell. You had better hope that they’re good ones!
P.S. Enough Russian Roulette already!
