Terry, the reason you have a stiff neck with headache is because Jamesy never stops talking so that would happen. Isn’t he a little overwhelming? lol God bless him
Hi Louisa,
Good grief – nor could I ever forget you! I was always crazy about you and Annie. I hated sharing the two of you with anyone else.
Yes, my dad (Johnny) always had an enormous passion for music, especially opera, and although we didn’t have a lot of money, we did have a great component system!
My father would always tell us, “I’ll listen to your music, but then you’ll have to listen to mine.†For this reason, all of us enjoy all kinds of music and I believe this was my father’s greatest legacy to his children. I now play opera, jazz, classical, as well as the Beatles, for my students and they love all of it! My sister Marianne, who probably knows the lyrics to every musical ever written, has two children and lives with her husband Michael Kaminski in Bay Ridge. Rita, who is now an accountant, still has a beautiful voice and now sings to her two grandchildren in Marblehead, MA. I distinctly remember how, after my dad died in 1978, my mom gave each of her five children $500 from his insurance policy. I saved that money until I moved to my first apartment on Ocean Parkway and Avenue R. With it, I bought an inexpensive bed and a very sophisticated stereo system in honor of my dad!
I’m afraid I won’t make this reunion Louisa. I was in Boston in July, just returned from the mountains in New Mexico, and I’m visiting my second cousin Janine (Marie Elena’s daughter) in San Diego for Thanksgiving. Have a great time and everybody hug each other for me.
Louise, do you remember that pirate story that I wrote to Annie about?
Love, Patty
Hi Susan (Lentini),
You were always so regal looking with your long jet black hair and brown eyes. The three of you had such beautiful black hair!
No, we don’t have stoops in Tucson. You wouldn’t want to sit near the ground anyway, just in case something crawled up your leg!
Anthony Oliva,
Thanks for catching me up on the last 30 years!
It was hilarious talking on the phone for two hours and trying to fill in all the blanks.
What could be better than growing up in B’klyn!
Hi Dianne A.,
Thank you for your kind words.
Please forgive me, but I cannot remember you at this time. The name Arnao sounds extremely familiar, so I’m hoping that as more data is fed into my brain, I’ll be able to match your name with your face. I thought the Lentini grandparents lived on 19th street. I seem to remember going there, and I think they had good meatballs, which was why I was there more than once.
In the meantime, forget the goldfish! Since you are 49 and single, why not consider doing some traveling with women’s travel groups, or maybe a singles cruise. I used to be a travel agent and a tour guide, and traveling alone is a great way to make new friends and possibly even meet that someone special. I went to Niagara Falls, Costa Rica, Honduras, and even went on a cruise to Bimini (on a 60 ft. sailboat with 18 passengers) by myself. I never once felt lonely or afraid. It’s great fun and not as scary as it may seem.
Arnao, Arnao – it’s gonna drive me crazy!
Goodnight all.

Hey Lori, wow,you are so righty this site has really taken off. so many familiar names and great memories. I just wish my memory was better, the names sound familiar but i can’t put a face with any of the names.
clotilda, rose and tom that you mentioned above are doing well (god bless them) they are living in dyker hights downstairs from my mother. your name sounds so familiar but yet i don’t seem to remember you and you are only 1 year younger than me. i’m sure our paths must have crossed at one time or another when i lived on 20th st. you have an impeccable memory.
Lori, have a great birthday i do remember your pool parties we had so much fun. because of you i always wished my birthday was in the summer. anyway enjoy your day and remember we’re not getting older just better.
Letizia.
HELLO TO ALL YOU WONDERFUL PEOPLE,
LORI ANGELO HAPPY BIRTHDAY!,
LETIZIA , thank you for letting me know how rose and tom are doing can you tell them i was asking for them they know me as tilly,i lived over the regina bakery when rose worked there and they knew my mom as phyllis her nickname is boobsie – thank you
Twiggy,
I laugh ever time I think of Frankie Bassalone. He use to come into Negri’s and drive us crazy. What stories Deetzie can tell you about him. You got to laugh. I remember him on skates too. I and do remember him singing that song.
Clara keep in touch we will get together. How is your Mom, tell her we were asking for her. Talk to you soon.
Phyllis have a great time in Aruba baby.
I REMBER FRANKIE BASSALONE FROM 3 STAR BAR ON 6TH AVE HE WAS A LOT OF LAUGHTS.A LOT OF GOOD TIMES BACK THEN
Anyone hear from Billy Patterson? he lived on 4th ave around 21st st.
Hi Patty,
Well, I’m envious. You’re the world traveler (alone) and I’m not surprised. I said you were the adventurous one. What a nice compliment you gave Annie and I. I can’t believe you did not want to “share” us…..who knew? You’re so sweet to divulge that, but that’s you……very honest and that’s what we loved about you because you were sooooo genuine. I’ll NEVER forget the fun we had together. As far as the pirate story, I do have a vague memory about it……….maybe Annie and I wanted to forget it for some reason.
I remember playing handball against the wall just off 5th Ave. We played and played. How about stickball in the street and when the annoying cars would come down the block to interrupt our game (how dare them), we had a crazy code word we would yell………eeeeakkkkeeee (not quite sure how to get that across). Do you remember? We would then step aside to allow the traffic through.
Who was the “cute” guy on 23rd St. between 5th & 6th Ave. you went out with? I think you went out with him for quite a while. We could see his house from our backyard (remember….we moved up one block – our big move.)
To clarify my cousin Diane’s comment………when we lived on 22nd St. between 4th & 5th, we lived in the same house as HER grandmother’s. In that 3 family house, they lived on the top, we lived in the middle and their grandmother (our aunt) lived on the first floor. Too bad you don’t recall……..Diane was (and still is) a pistol. We were very close (and still am) with Debbie and Diane. They have two brothers, John (and Frank born in S.I.)
I love what you did with the money your mom gave you when your dad passed. That was very sensitive. Sooooo sorry you can’t make the reunion, but like Annie said, if EVER you visit Brooklyn, you better get in touch. At least we have this site to communicate and reminisce.
Lori…………HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!
Terry, I too enjoyed cookies from Marie Ceeley. She was a sweet woman. My husband used to make sure she got home from Church ok, because she had a hard time walking. Her appreciation was very sweet and fattening. lol
Rose ann Gill was in my class. I think we ran into each other years later, and we both recognized each other and were happy we met. Too bad this site wasn’t around years ago.
Lucia are you going to Terry’s party? I’m going if can make it.
Hi Ralph…..it’s debbie, big nick’s daughter. How are you. I remember when karen sang in the band with you guy’s. We had fun times. I remember when my dad had the store on 6th ave. It was in your mom’s building right?
Hey my 21 st. gang:
It’s so nice to see all the memories.
Nilda: Can’t believe you’re still in the neighborhood. Funny I was just looking through my Dad’s pictures the other day and found a pic of me, Wendy, Eddie, Christy, and Patty Woods you and Paulie Oliva. Paulie and I were all of 4 years old. Then 2 days later my sister told me about this blog. Glad to hear Wendy and Eddie are doing well.
I have 3 sons Matthew , Mark and Michael. Very good boys. I’m blessed. My husband comes from 17 st. , I hear that’s where you live.
I remember when you moved all the way up prospect and my mom used to come to you for her perms, I have pics of that do.
Twiggy and Paulie:
So sorry about Jeannie, just all be there for each other and you’ll get through it together.
Twiggy can’t believe I’m hearing that name , this stage in my life, who’d have thought we’d ever be in contact again.
Paulie: Still as crazy as ever, one thing I recall is us hanging out one day and fighting the next.
Terry C:
Glad to see you and yours are doing well, say hi to Cara for me.
Everyone else thanx for the memories, you brought some tears , but most laughs into my nights as I read this messages.

Hi Annie (Lentini).
You are so sweet!
Thanks for the invite. It would be wonderful seeing you again. I do get to NY occasionally, usually for a wedding or a funeral. I was there last summer when my two sisters and I took a cruise to Bermuda with our mom – she had her stroke shortly after that. Before that, I was there for my uncle Tim (Guittari’s) funeral. He was the victim of a hit and run gypsy cab on 21st and 5th. You may have heard about it. He and I became very close after my father died – we would go out to dinner together almost every Sunday for years.
I hope you know that if you ever come west, you have an open invitation to my place as well. Be sure to bring your cousin Diane with you! (and of course, any other Lentini’s). Besides, all Americans should see the Grand Canyon at least once.
Some friends and I just finished watching the Olympic opening ceremonies in Beijing- it was incredibly beautiful. I almost never watch sports, but always wait patiently for the Olympic Games every two years. About five years ago in Lake Placid, I rode an official bobsled thinking it would be similar to a roller coaster – not! It was one of the scariest things I’ve ever done.
Must take dog out and go to sleep now. Later…
Love, Patty
Terry,
Thanks for the CD how exciting! My brother Rocco will be here today and I was wondering if he could pick it up around 1:00. I will email now and hope the time is OK. Thank you and your cousin so much!
Love, Clara
Paulie Oliva,

Paulie
I just wanted to say so sorry about Jeanne. I can truly say I know how you feel and its very hard. I still cry when I read these post about my dad but now I can laugh too. You just have to take it one day at a time and it slowly gets better. I know you don’t believe it right now but its true. My thoughts are with you and your family.
PAULIE OLIVA – ITS CLOTILDA COSTA, ANTHONY COSTA’S SISTER, so nice to see you here, i feel so bad for you and your family just try to take one day at a time , talk about your sister jeanne and keep her memory alive, when you want to laugh think about what rocco used to do to you he tortured you,he really broke your b—s,thats cause he loved you, and look at all these wonderful people here that care about you. do you remember my mother boobsie she used to tell you curses to lol i think everybody made you curse lol. i still live in the neighborhood things have changed but i love it here. where are you living? do you ever com here? if you scroll up in one of my comments i wrote about how i remember your brother jamsey with the newspaper rolled under his arm, then as you got older i would see you on 5th ave same thing you would have the newspaper rolled under your arm lol. talk to you soon paulie take care

LOVE TERRY P.S ROCCO YOUR DAUGHTER IS ADORABLE GOD BLESS HER
Hi Louisa,
Thanks for reminding me about the handball we played for hours – I totally forgot! Stickball was always my favorite though and the traffic was soooo awful. I remember one day I stood too close to a batter and got it right across the small of my back. I fell to the ground thinking my back was broken. It might be why my lower back hurts today. Do you remember how we played buck-buck? I’m not sure you and Annie played that one. I bet others out there who played that rough game have bad backs today! Did we skate board together? Do you remember skating each week at St. Rocco’s? Do you remember the box carts on skates? I like how we did all those sports and then retired to play with our Barbie dolls! Oh, the memories are overwhelming…
The most vivid recollection I have of a game was one I played at about age 8. Some boy convinced me to compete against him in a type of Russian roulette – the object was to dash in front of an on-coming car and get to the other side without being run over! I can’t imagine what possessed me to agree to such a stupid thing. Well, during my last narrow escape, the driver screeched to a halt and screamed at me as I lay on the ground. Unbeknownst to me, my normally loving and affectionate father had witnessed what I had just done and began yelling and chasing me up and down the street. Except for the occasional slap, we were rarely hit, but that day I got the beating of my life. He chased me until I couldn’t run anymore and I finally escaped into my grandfather’s bar. I cried out for my grandfather to save me and ran behind the bar to hide underneath his long white apron. My grandfather yelled for my dad to stop – but to no avail. He dragged me from behind the bar kicking and screaming. He beat my legs and butt in front of all those customers who could do nothing but sit in stunned silence. Those slaps stung something awful, but I was more humiliated by the fact that everyone watched. Needless to say, I chose more conservative games in the future!
Louise, each memory seems to trigger and uncover other, more obscured ones. This blog (my first ever) is really a strange and wonderful experience – one I never dreamed would happen.
Please do not cover those freckles with foundation — they were ADORABLE and I always wanted to have some so I could look like you and Annie. You two were my idols!
Love, Patty
Terry and Ralphie
Terry thanks for the compliments it was great to meet you today! You are such a wonderful person! I don’t think my brother will be able to read this for awhile but I’ll pass on the message! You 2 can really give it to each other! lol

Paulie ,
Thanx for asking about the family. Denise and I are the last ones left. My brother, mom and dad have all passed away. That’ s why I feel your pain. It’s been rough, I have my days. That’s why this page is such an inspiration, seeing people saying they had a crush on my brother , or hearing about St Anna’s my dad’s 2nd home. Damico’s, the lourdes shop , we lived up on top for most of my life, except when we lived next door to you over Munsons Florist. Man we used to watch the mice come out at night into the window….ughhhh…..LOL..
Me and Marlene Irato… Funny stuff.
We’ll catch up as time goes by.

Does anyone remember picking apricots from St. Anna’s tree?
I felt bad when my Dad told me several years ago, they cut it down.
That’s where my love for apricots come from.
Back then you can get $1 worth of seven layers from Damicos and it’d be a bag full, now that will get you a cookie.
How about Rocco’s snow cones, miss those too, the frozen milk cartons to make the ice.
Between Rocco and Johnny Dogs, we were the Polocks of the neighborhood. Never mind that our Dad’s Italian…LOL….
The laughs I have from that candy store.
Then when Kelly owned it I actually used to help work there. Making the egg creams and malteds. I wish we had a store like that in my neighborhood.

I f a movie is ever made you know who the producer and director is going to be … none other than T. A. Sherman. Ha! I spoke to Franny on this wishing her all my best. It’s terror for sure, but us Brooklyn Girls are tough, right Franny?
Carol M. You’re grandsons are beautiful. Terry sent some pics. You must be in heaven.
Judy, I’m sorry. I forgot to congratulate you on your granddaughter. What a doll. I’m getting jealous. Dana is getting married next August but no babies from Kim yet. She’s married 2 years.
Spoke to Jamesey the other day. It was like we hadn’t ever been apart. The last time I spke to him was when I was still very sick in the hospital. How great it is to reconnect with old friends. I hope you’re reading this Jamesey . You were a great friend in the days of the club and one of the nicest guys to talk to. I hope we’ll be doing that real soon at Terry’s.
Well bye for now, must go and cook. Love Ya!
Greetings from Venice Island….. Florida (not Italy) 🙁

I was one of the regulars at the Gridiron – with Terry Angelo, Carol Miele, Grace Coen, Nancy Savarese…. (I was the ‘quiet one’ :-)Franny Bruno from 20th St off of 5th Ave. We loved The Beaten Path and lived for dancing to your music on Friday & Saturday nights.
You should read some of the entries here on this blog – more people went to the Gridiron than to mass on Sunday mornings. I guess you didn’t know you were all icons and part of our history.
I even checked online over the years to see if there was any “Beaten Path” music for sale… ???
Had to say this to you at the risk of sounding like an ‘aged’ groupie.
One more thing, I read Joan Calciano’s book last week and all
I can say is God Bless Your Mom (who I do remember). I have
been praying for everyone in that book since the day I started
reading it (I also went through grammer school and JH10 with
Linda).
Ciao to All!!!
Denise Cresci how are you? One of the good old bottle gang. I can picture you like it was yesterday.
Talked to Ralphie Surato this weekend was that a great surprise. This blog was done wonders.
Jamesy and I were talking about the reunion at Terry’s house and I am pretty sure the 4 of us are in. I am going to email Terry on her email address and let her know what I was thinking of bringing or what she may want.
So Santina, the answer is yes to going.
Toni spoke to Georgina Carbona and told her to tell me that Raymond died 2 years ago. Did you know?
Well glad to see Paulie Oliva is on after hearing his name so much.
Ralphie were are you?????????????????????
