Hi Patty!
So happy your cousin contacted you about this site! I have not EVER forgotten you. I remember the “music room” you had in your home and your mom and sister, Rita, singing so beautifully together. I seem to recall music like “The Letterman” playing on a sophisticated stereo system. I loved going to your house.
I’m not surprised in the least that you are surrounded by “danger” (animals). You were never afraid of anything. You drove Annie and I crazy, but we loved the adventures we shared with you.
Any chance of surprising us at the reunion?
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR ROCCO HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU. THANK GOD YOU DONT HAVE TO HEAR ME SING. LOL
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY ALSO TO TERRY ANN LOVE TERRY

Susan Lentini!!! I am so happy to read your words, I want to give you a hug!! I just got this site from Anthony Gags. It is wonderful. I want to hear some more from the “twinkies”!! Hi Franny. Great to read your comments. say hello to Jeanne for me. I am driving up to visit Cynthia Kozar Cohn in PA this Friday. My sister Roseann and I are going to meet Doris Ceely Rios and John Rios at Cynthia’s to catch up on old times. I live in Toms River, NJ. I married Mike Marra ( Jeannette Gags brother) 37 years ago and we are still together. I have room in my car if anyone wants to take the ride with us. My e-mail is [email protected]. Cynthia tried to have a reunion about 5 years ago. Mary Lou Reitz, Doris Ceely and Stephen Hughes were some of the people that made it. Maybe we can get another one going for next year sometime. Got to go now but I’ll keep in touch. Ellen
Terry Angelo,

Patty Negri,
Thanks for the kind words. The last time I saw you must have been HS graduation. It sounds like you have a great life.
I’ve been married for 35 years with two great kids, both married. Can’t ask for anything more.
Take care.
OK, Patty Negri,
There you are, I’m amazed. What are you doing in Tucson? I love it there and I love the South West. One of my favorite people live in Tucson and I’m still in touch with her.
If you scroll up you’ll see I’ve been asking about you for weeks. Anthony Negri finally got on and hooked you up. I don’t remember the bar Rita worked in. Was it in bay ridge? And was it Rita who lived over the Gas Company? How long are you in AZ ? I’m going to email you, for sure….I have to get off..

Carol, Marks Ice Cream Parlor, was the greatest place to be. My Father made the greatest egg creams, and malteds. Anyone can use the same ingredients to make a sandwich, but my Dad’s sandwich would be better. He had this knack for doing this. He was also obsessed with Ebingers the greatest bakery of all time. I mentioned the ice cream parlor way up at the top of the blog and how I would go there after school for a cheese burger. Me and Jamesey spent our high school years working in Parker and Megna, along with my cousin Vincent. It was a big deal meeting Connie Francis but she was really a B list entertainer but she was good looking. I don’t know if I can make the re-union. but I’ll really try.
My emial is [email protected]– Terry can you send me the info.
Lori- what do you mean poor Anthony- I never forget my favorites from the hood, and Patty and her sister Rita were a scream to be with. thanks to Ann Marie and Anthony Negri, for putting another classic on the blog.
Who else can we get on??? What about the Castaldo sisters- Maria, Rosalind and who was the older sister?– What about Linda Calsiano- I think I can get a hold of her. By the way someone mentioned Joey Iorio above and I almost pissed myself remembering him. I remember exactly what he looked like.
My sister Christina- knows the words to the song Frankie Basalone used to sing, when he wasn’t yelling at NYC busses. She sang it to me last week over the phone-I thought I was going to pass out laughing.. Christina you have to try to get on and do that.
HI THIS DENISE CRESCI FROM 21ST.
ONE OF THE ORIGINAL BOTTLE ETTES.
UP UNTIL TODAY I NEVER WANTED A COMPUTER.
MY 1ST AGENDA IS TO SEND MY CONDOLENCES TO THE OLIVA’S, FROM ME AND MY SISTER LISA.
I CAN’T BELIEVE HOW MANY PEOPLE, PLACES AND NAMES, I ‘VE FORGOTTEN UNTIL TODAY.
BEING PART OF A GENERATION WHO HAVE LOST 80% OF OUR FRIENDS, AND WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO HAVE A REUNION, THIS SITE HAS HIT ME CLOSE TO HOME.
I WANT TO SHOUT OUT A HELLO TO EVERYONE OF YOU.
WHOEVER ASKED FOR GINA’S INFO, SHE’LL BE ON SOON.
I FOUND THIS SITE SO INTERESTING, AND SO TAKEN BACK BY IT, AND THE DEVOTION WE ALL HAVE FROM THIS NEIGHBORHOOD, I JUST MIGHT GO BY A LAPTOP FOR HOME.
TILLY THANX FOR TELLING ME ABOUT THIS SITE.
Carol Miele
I remember Clara and her husband very well. They lived on 33rd street. (right?) Working with Clara was so much fun!!! May she rest in peace. My Ex Mother in law lived on 32nd st so I would call Clara on the phone so she could go into her yard with her husband (RAY?)so we could see each other (fond Memories). God Bless!! I will tell my Aunt Prudy about Clara.
Many thanks to Marie and Terry for their efforts. Now let’s see if Elli B can get Dorothy to come on board. Dorothy’s mom was a gem and her words of wisdom I carry with me for nearly 40 years. She saved me from myself and for that I will be eternally grateful. Forty years ago tomorrow I came home to find my dreams and love shattered within minutes. Do I still believe in love at first sight? You betcha.
Hi Annie (Lentini),
It’s wonderful hearing from you and I could never forget you either!
You bet I remember our trip to Miami. It was my first time away from home and first time on a plane – we had so much fun. I think you were 19 and I was 18. We stayed at the more conservative Newport Hotel on Collins Ave. The last day of our trip we water-skied, swam, played tennis, and I had sun poisoning afterwards – ouch.
It’s funny, but I don’t remember the thing with the blinds. I do remember enjoying how quiet, respectable and reserved your household was, compared to the noise and chaos in mine. I remember how you could ask your parents anything – that’s how we learned where babies came from – I was 10.
Do you remember building igloos in the snow in front of Bobby’s house? Do you remember how Bobby and Allan convinced me to play the part of a pirate and trick you and Louisa into going down to Bobby’s basement – to the bottom of their pirate ship! Once there, they tied the two of you up on the floor and began kissing you. I was left standing there to watch, and was quite upset about not being tied up! Perhaps it was because I was a tomboy and more like them. I seem to recall you and Louisa being pretty angry with me afterwards. Do you remember?
Do you both still have freckles? I remember how most people couldn’t tell you apart, but it was a cinch for me. I could go on and on, but I must get some sleep even though I don’t have to work tomorrow. School is officially back in session starting Monday.
Love, Patty
Anthony,
I was hoping that someone would find Negri for you! You kept asking for them. Now I’m doing the sam with Gina! Poor me! They had to let you out of the bathroom? ONLY KIDDING! Remind me to hit you on the 21st!
Denise C! Welcome on! I don’t know if you remember me. I can still see your mom’s face and your brother also! He was so good looking. I was from teh younger crowd but always remember passing those boys on the corner and looking from afar! Didn’t your mom work/own a wool store?
Anthony Oliva – Rosalyn Castaldo married Anthony Rizzo and they live in Staten Island. Their youngest daughter happened to marry my cousin’s son and they have a beautiful daughter. Maria has 3 sons and Joyce has 1 son. I’m not sure about their oldest sister Carol. Their mother, Florence, is still going strong.
Just a note, Anthony, our last name is Paladino, not Negri. My husband’s mother’s name was Negri (Caroline).
Oh, and Rita Negri did live on top of the gas company in one apartment and in the other apartment lived their other cousin, Marie Elena Giuttari. She married Jack D’Angelo.
Denise C – I remember you and your family very well. Your Mom was friends with my mother-in-law, Caroline. Do you remember me?
Clotilda….my aunt Lil won’t walk down 21st anymore. She says she can’t pass the house (or lack of).
Nilda…..of course I remember you. Edith has been gone 24years now, it’s hard to believe. I will talk to my aunt’s and tell them you would like to visit.
Karen Dritto….how are you? I will talk to Vinny and see about that picture and let you know.
Denise……I remember the PTA well. You said you lived on 20th street? At the moment I’m drawing a blank on your face but I know the name….sorry.
Terry G…..Thanks for the kind words about my family. You saw Vinny and NIck at my Uncle’s wake in Staten Island. Vinny is all over the place. LOL Just like my father was!!!
Janet…..I’m so glad we finally caught up. I’m trying to make plans for us to meet with Esther for lunch. I’ll let you know.
AnnMarie……..How the hell are you? I can’t believe you’re still on 21st street. How I miss those times.
Lori……you’re right it was like family then. I miss being able to let my kids out to play and not worry like when we were young. We had Frankie Barcelona and that other guy Billy (I’m not sure but I think we called him billy billy bang bang).
Tony Mei…….your sister dawn was friends with my brother Vinny. You guys lived up 21st between 6th & 7th?
Anthony O……..I spent a lot of time with you family when I was growing up. All good times. I ran into Jamesey a few years ago, of all places, on the boardwalk in Atlantic City!!!
Hello Hello!!
Patty,
Soooo happy to hear from you!!!
OMG, Yes, we had a great time hanging out with you! We enjoyed staying at your house all the time…….yes, mine being too reserved at times!! Sorry, I would have never remembered the basement story……but it’s all coming back now…..you provided all the excitement. We love you!! My sister Louise couldn’t recall the blind story either.
Our freckles still remain….not so noticeable ….with the help of foundation.
I hope we could manage to meet one day and reminisce for hours!
My home is always open to you!
Congratulations on your marriage. He is a lucky guy!
I need to start my day at work.
We will keep in touch for sure.

WOW….I’ve been off for a couple of days – so good to read more connections.
PATTY NEGRI – do you remember me? I’m Louise, Annie and Susan’s cousin – we all lived in my grandparents house on 22nd between 4th and 5th (before the Lentinis made their big move up the block). My sister Debby went to school with your sister Marianne. I remember going to your house with “the twins” and with my sister to play barbies with Marianne after school. Your mother was soooooo nice to me (I’m sure my sister didn’t want me around) but she was great and I’ll always remember that.
My Mom (Mary DelPezzo Arnao) used to hang out in front of Johnny Negri’s candy store (back in the day). She asked if any of the Negri’s were on this site and now I will tell her “yes”.
I’m 49, still single, no children (I was thinking about getting a gold fish)! I just started dating a guy who lives on 12th Street (bet. 4 & 5) – he was raised on 13th Street (4th & 5th) and he and his father used to go to my grandfather’s barbershop on 17th Street to get their haircuts! Talk about a small world!
Anyway, glad to hear all is well with you. Sorry to hear about your Mom’s condition – it is a horrible illness and I’m glad you have the support of your family.
Take care, be well.

Hola:
Carol Miele: I am happy real happy about your new grandbaby, i know the feeling; Wendy has a beautiful granddaughter, Victoria Rose, she is the apple of my heart. Wendy is married and living in Middle town. Eddie is doing well also, he is still single. i am well, thank God, single and loving it. I am glad that u and yours are doing well. Regards to your family. Carol, now that you mention it, i do remember Tony Oliva talking about Connie Stevens wow that seems like a hundred years ago.
Denise Cresci: We were neighbors first on 23rd street and then on 5th avenue, bet. 21 and 22 street. I am sorry to hear about your parents, they were good neighbors. I knew of your brother, he also passed young. How old is Lisa? I remember her she was much younger than you correct? How are u, do u have children? Nice to see u on. I said all this, but do u remember me?????
We had our first reunion block party on 17th street, and it was a total success. i couldn’t be there, i was babysitting, but Donna Maxil filled me in. Many old timers showed up, from what i understand they had a blast, Donna Maxil is an excellent organizer, there was plenty of food and they play stick ball the old timers against the new comers, they had many laughs. i hope some of you will come to our 4th Ã…nnual Cancer Crusade, which will be on August 23rd. All the proceeds go to American Cancer Society, they will be there representing. Donnna Maxil and i will be there all day, i hope u come and support. If any one is interested in donating $ you can make out a check to American Cancer Society and mail it to Donna Maxil at 149 17 Street, Brooklyn, NY 11215; i hope to see some of u.
Oh boy Marie Ceeley that name sounds so familiar to me! I am sure when my sister, Terry angelo, comes on she will refresh my memory!
Clotilda, Oh my God, all the names you mentioned! Rocco Agolia, just ran into him about one year ago. he lives on Staten Island married Donna from 6th Avenue. She lived I think in Frankie Tombascco’s house? Or maybe next door?? John divine died many years ago…drugs????? Who the heck is helen Hayes? Mark Geradi, wonder what happened to him? Lucilee M. i belive maybe Linda keeps in touch with her?? Tammy, boy I remember she got pregnant very young, which shocked me! Ellen Oshea, you know I think of that girl often! Remember how we use to run from her. She use to sharpen her crayons between her teeth. I always felt sorry for her!
SARAPHINE,
I DONT KNOW WHERE TO START. I HAVE TO GO BACK AND READ ALL THE NEW NOTES. YES, YES, YES I DID GO ON BOZO AND I DID NOT LIKE HIM AFTER THAT. HE PICKED THAT PRETTY GIRL I THINK HER NAME WAS CALARA NOT SURE. SHE WAS SO PRETTY AND THERE I PROBABLY WAS WITH MY PERMED HAIR FROM MRS LILLY ON 7TH AVENUE. PERM AND STRAIGHT BANGS. WHAT WAS MY MOTHER THINKING? IWAS A SKINNY KID AND PERMED HAIR WONDER WHY BOZO DID NOT PICK ME. LOL LOVE COUSIN TERRY

DORIS CEELEY,
I REMEMBER YOUR MOM. SHE WAS THE GREATEST. WE CALLED HER THE COOKIE LADY. I THINK YOUR BROTHER OR SOMEONE WORKED FOR A COOKIE COMPANY. I STILL SEE THE GREEN BOXES OF COOKIES SHE USED TO GIVE US. SHE WAS SUCH A FUNNY LADY. SHE WAS FRIENDS WITH MY MOM MARGIE ANGELO. I REMEMBER YOU ALSO. I COULD BE VISITING AND NO MATTER WHERE I WAS SHE ALWAYS PULLED OUT A BOX OF COOKIES AND GIVE THEM TO ME. OUR MOMS WERE FUNNY. EVEN IN CHURCH AT A FUNERAL SHE WOULD HURRY OPEN YOUR BAG AND SHE WOULD STICK A BOX OR TWO IN MY BAG. FUNNY THE THINGS YOU REMEMBER. SHE WAS FUNNY AND SO GENEROUS. well well well!!! of course this blog isn’t really a blog until i got on it. lol. yes people it’s me, paulie oliva. the little brat kid on 5th ave constantly using cuss words and raising hell by getting into trouble and making my mother go crazy. lol. HOW THE FUCK IS EVERYONE!!!??? LOL LOL LOL. first i want to personally thank everyone for the love and kindness and sympathy regarding my sister jeanne’s passing. We not only lost our second mother,(to me and christina she was beacuse we were the youngest) but our best friend as well. again i truly thank everone for the kindness and love you have shown on this blog.
well i’m no longer that little terror on 5th ave anymore, but i am truly blessed with tremendous recall and i am very sentimental when it comes to things like this blog. some of my 5th ave memories are:
1) in case no one remembers, but i was the only kid on 5th ave under 12 who got a kiss from every single bottlette member in the group. lol lo llol . all on the same day. lol lol
2) i was also the 5th ave pinball champ in roccos candy store. oh god that was a constant with me. playing that pinball machine and rocco giving me free vanilla malts. i don’t know who used more profanity (i think rocco had me beat) but it was close. lol
3) THE BLACKOUT OF 77- my mother and her friends outside playing cards during the blackout. classic moment. lol
other than the 5th ave memories i truly had so many others after 1980. mostly when i lived at roccos house(my second father) and the friends i grew up with. the greatest times of my life. reading these comments, i remember alot of people out here and my heart warms with each comment i read. i love and miss you all and its so nice to see your names and hear from you. my email is [email protected] if anyone wants to email me to say hello.

I just got off the phone with Patty Negri, and she was asking about your niece Pat Meile. How is she doing? I did not have recall of Pat until Patty Negri mentioned her. Of course I remember your sister Pat… as in Pat & Carol Miele- the one was never mentioned without the other.
