POPPY AND MY MOM WERE PRANKSTERS. THEY PLAYED JOKES ON EVERYONE AT BINGO. MY MOM PUT POTATOES IN THE POCKETS OF ALL THE MEN AND LEFT WITH OUR LEFTOVER HOT DOGS. THE NEXT DAY THEY WANTED TO KILL HER. SHE WOULD PUT SIGNS ON THEIR HATS AND THEY WOULD NOT SEE THEM THEY WOULD LEAVE BINGO AND SAY GOOD NIGHT AND PEOPLE WOLD SAY …WHAT THE HELL IS THAT ON YOUR HAT. THEY WOULD BE SIGNS SAYING THE PRESS AND CRAZY THINGS. THEY HAD A BALL WORKING THAT BINGO AND THOSE HOT DOGS WERE THE BEST. LOVE TERRY
Christina, thank you so much for sending me this website. So many names are familiar and I’m sure everyone’s parents knew mine, Big Nick and Diana Bonavita. Sadly, they are both gone but the memories keep us all going. It’s so hard to believe how much 21st street has changed since I grew up. I remember playing jump rope, hop scotch, climbing the fence of St. John’s, squeezing thru the bars, (how skinny we were) and running outside the kindergarten classrooms. Christine, remember when we used to climb the gate in the school and hide on the balcony?????????? So many memories. Would you believe my Aunt Rosie and Aun Lillian still live in the same small apartment on 21st st. Remember Josie Casabella? My Aunt Rosie worked there for years……..well dinner is ready!! Hope to talk to you soon…………Debbie
CLOTILDA,
I finally got a picture of you in my mind. I remember when your husband worked in Frank the Butcher shop. I think you were my brother John’s age. He would have been 46 years old. I am a year younger. Your brother Anthony, married Terry Gags, right? Where are you living now?
Jeanne’s passing was the absolute worse! She was diagnosed just 10 months ago on September 18th and passed on July 17th. Her cancer was very rare (Peritoneal Mesothelioma) which you contract from being exposed to asbestos. She was only 52 years old. She left many, many beautiful friends and she was a successful realtor in New Jersey. She was truly awesome and for such a tough life in Brooklyn, having to raise a family at the age of 24, she accomplished so much with the odds against her. WE WILL TRULY MISS HER – SHE WAS MY BEST FRIEND.
omg Margaret of course I Remember you we lived on the best block in brooklyn. FRAN BRUNO we without the girls in the hood there would be no GRIDIRON IT WAS THE BEST can”t wait to see everyone at the reunion. Clotilda sorry I remember the name, but can”T picture you. BIG HI TO MY COUSIN CHRISTINA {TWIGGY} LUVyou lets try to get together when u come back to NJ.TERRY IS THERE ANYONE IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD U DONT KNOW?

does anyone know what happened to the piccone’s 6th ave nice family good looking boys.
DEBBIE BONIVITA your dad was another great man not to be forgotten he was always involved with the church and the school, when he called bingo if he knew you needed a certain number he would look at you and shake his head to let you know it wasnt your number but when he called the number it was the number you needed and everyone would get a kick out of him, your mom diana there are to many words to describe her beautiful women i actually wanted to buy your house ,giovanni in the pizzeria told me it was for sale my husband got in touch with your brother nicky, and nicky said that it would be awhile before you guys where gonna sell the house so we found this house,i see your aunt lillian all the time she miss’s your mom so much i always invite her to my house but i guess she likes to stay close to 21st, how is your brother vinny i used to see him on t.v. ocassinaly. hope all is well for you and your family, i remember how pretty your mom always kept the front of the house i always loved that house.
Oh boy…I coyuld not get on last night either! I was freaking out. I said finally people for me to talk to and I can’t get on. I thought my big sister Terry was blocking me since all my old cousins have not been on. Only kidding!
Can anyone hear me screming, my 8 year old is doing schoolwork next to me and making me nuts!!!!!!!!!!
The Piccone boys…I just ran into someone (of course I can’t remember who) that was realted to them and she said that they are married and doing well. I remember them being good looking as well.
Clotilda…I did not know you still keep in touch with Gina (well since you are now family) please tell her to get on this site. I still think of her often. We had so many good times together.
Debbie Bonivita! Your parents were legends in the neighborhood just like mine! I remember like it was yesterday when your dad got burned when he was fixing his car. You could always count on them being outside and if they were not, you could be sure my mom would ring the bell and we would have a visit. How is Karen?
Denise…get your sister on here! I had just asked Angela for her email address and of course i never sent it. I have so many memories of your family as a child. Always in your Grandmother’s basement doing ceramics! God, I remember your house! Sitting on stools? And the phone being on the wall right in the kitchen.
Someone is related to the Riccrdi’s, I can’t find the blog with the information. It makes me dizzy going up and down the page. Did your Dad, Uncle???? open up in Staten Island?
Christina O, I still can not believe you sister passed! I was coming home from vacation when my sisiter’s were coming to the wake. I always thought she was so much older than us. I guess it was because she was always taking care of the family. And do you believe that I can’t remember your brother Anthony! I thought your mom hid him in the bathroom when we would visit! But I see other people remember him ONLY KIDDING ANT!!
IM READING OVER SOME OF THE ENTRIES. I AM NOT STUPID I JUST CAN NOT TYPE. SO MUCH FOR THE TYPING LESSONS IN BAYRIDGE H.S. . LOL
OMG BIG NICK, WHAT A WONDERFUL MAN. HE WAS GOOD FRIENDS WITH MY UNCLE CHUBBY. DIANE WAS SO NICE. YOU WOULD WALK TO CHURCH AND YOU WOULD SEE BIG NICK AND DIANE AND BABE ORLANDI OUTSIDE THEIR HOUSES NEXT TO THE SCHOOL.
I REMEMBER ONE TIME HE CAME TO VISIT MY AUNT MARIE AND UNCLE CHUBBY AT THEIR HOUSE ON 27TH STREET. I WAS VERY YOUNG AND IT IMPRESSED ME SO MUCH THAT SOMEONE COULD EAT A NICEY, SPICEY PERROTTA MEATBALL IN ONE GULP. I WS SO SMALL AND HE SEEMED SO BIG AND I NEVER FORGOT THE MEATBALL THAT DISAPPEARED IN ONE GULP. HAHA IM SORRY BUT I CANT HELP SHARING ALL THESE STORIES. IM LIKE RAINMAN WITH MEMORIES BUT TODAY I HAD MY NAILS DONE ANDI COULD NOT REMEMBER THE GIRLS NAME I WAS TALKING WITH THAT I MET A FEW YEARS AGO. THANK GOD I DID NOT HAVE TO INTRODUCE HER TO ANYONE.

Hello everyone – I’m still tryin to Locate Dorothy Biscuiti from 21 street. She has an older sister named Cammile. Dorothy if you’re reading this – your Mom Ann and I communicated many years after I came home. I lost contact with her about 6-7 years ago. I even tied to see her but your apartment was inhabited by other people. I hope she is alright. Remember how she used to say “it’s a sin.” At times I look at your old photos and think back. I don’t know how much time is left but it would be wonderdful to hear from you again. Your daughter must be over 21 by now – time is passing altogether too rapidly.

Hey all: if you are having trouble sending a comment and have it disappear and then have to spend the time retyping it, do this. First type it as an e-mail and send it to yourself. Then you’ll have the comment to copy and paste again if it’s lost. This way you can write your heart out and not worry about losing it if the system doesn’t accept it first try. Good evening to all. I’ts great reminiscing about the old neighborhood and recalling fond memories. Funny how reminiscing allows you to delete anything that wasn’t good and highlight only the best. It’s like writing a script making everything just the way you want it. I guess we all get nostalgic as we get older. Our bodies age but in our minds we’re still 16. It’s our kids that make us feel old. Thats why we love this site… we’re all young again and rejuvenated.( By the way i’ve taken the dictionary out three times already. Who knew there was a c in reminiscing!) I believe we’ve found our own fountain of youth. I think this forum could prove to be very therapeutic for all (dictionary again ) especially Terry now that she runs it. I’m on Prozac … she’s on this site. Love you crazy lady. Well I think I’ll close for tonight. Say Goodnight Gracie.

Subject: Missing comments
Hi Terry,
I saw the comments about the missing comments this weekend:
There was a short server outage, so nobody could get on the site for a while. Please let people know that I have to manually approve comments for new users. That is to prevent spam. That is why their comments do not show up right away. I have to approve them to make sure they are not spammers.
By the way, you are almost at 1000 comments, which is amazing, but that’s going to break my blog!! I can either start a new blog post so people can continue to post on DailySlope.com, or I can set up a message board at Brooklynian, our sister site, so people can start their own threads (“hey I’m looking for so-and-so  “Does anybody remember XYZ…â€)
I’m glad this site has been a way to connect for you and your friends!
Andy – webmaster for DailySlope.com and=2 0Brooklynian.com

Andy, Administrator –
how many of the 1,000 comments are Terry’s? 🙂
Terry is going to be the next Mayor.
I love this site. It’s so great reading all these stories, thinking back when life was sooooo much easier. No kids, no mortgages, no bills!!! Lol
Clotilda, I can’t believe you still see my Aunt Lillian. She hardly ever leaves 21st St. I’ve been trying to get her to come to see me but she won’t. She won’t leave my Aunt Rosie alone, she is frail and can’t really stay alone. Since my mother died they have become hermits, not that i blame them. They have no one but us.
My father loved his bingo. I think it was his boys night out. Every Tuesday without fail. Anyway, it took us almost two years before we sold my mothers house and when I look at it now it seems so weird. I used to tell people I live in the house with the butterflies on it!!! Lol
Lori, I remember being on vacation in Pennsylvania and getting a knock on the door of our room and who do you think was there? Mike and Margie!!!! It was great, we had coffee and donuts and visited in our motel room. Boy, the memories come back fast. Didn’t you parents have a store on fifth? Your brother Carl worked there right? Karen is good, she lives in Riverdale and has one son. She visits often, but never enough.
Christina, we spent so much time together as kids. We have so many memories. Remember when the tv went on fire when I was sleeping over? We sat in Negri”s bar for a while. I think my father ran down the block half dressed that night. Lol
Hi Everyone, Wow the Bonavitas, what a great family, I remember all of you so well. I ran into Nicky and Vinny at someones wake recently, and then again Vinny at the mall, he had is kids with him, what dolls. Big Nick, what a gentleman, and taken away so young. Your mom Diana, a great woman. Someone said in an earlier post that we are all catching up in age, yes you are right and to me that is scary, since I was always the baby. Turning 40 this year was a big step, middle age kinda stinks lol. But as I always remind my sisters I am still the baby, lol. Have a great day everyone and Terry Ann, keep on writting, I love your stories.
FRANNY,
THANKS FRANNY FOR PRINTING WHAT THE ADMINISTRATOR WROTE TO ME. I DID NOT THINK OF DOING THAT. I EMAILED HIS EMAIL HE SENT TO ME TO YOU AND OTHERS. SO MANY PEOPLE WERE FRUSTRATED THAT THEY COULD NOT GET ON. LOVE TERRY
REAL FUNNY…..I DO HAVE ALOT ON THIS SITE BUT THANKS TO ME THATS HOW WE ALL GOT ON. I GIVE THIS SITE TO EVERYONE I MEET THAT GREW UP WITH US. I LOVE IT. TERRY
marie panetta rumola,
george is above. he already made a movie. look on top he put his email with the movie he made. i think george is trying to promote his movie on the site. terry
Hi All, it’s been a while since I was on last. Hi Debbie Bonavita – it’s Karen Dritto! How are you? I ran into your brother Vinny at Pathmark about 2 weeks back w/his wife and 2 of his 4 kids! He told me about Jeannie. Christina Oliva – please accept my sympathies on Jeannie’s passing. We were such good friends in St. John’s (and then we grew up and apart). She used to come to my house and just stand there for a few seconds saying, “shhhh, it’s sooooo quiet here” after the chaos of your house with all the kids!! We’d then go down to hang with Edith Ann. Vinny mentioned something about a picture with Jeannie, Edith and myself. If either of you have, I’d love a copy of it. Boy do I miss those days.
Frannie (Bruno) – hi – saw your comment re: Terry being the mayor. I was thinking more along the lines of President!! Hi Terry (can’t wait to get my pampered chef stuff). Tell Michelle that I went and bought a pair of FitFlops and they are comfortable!
Clotilda – you mentioned Gina Pugliese – can you please tell her I said hello!! When I lived in Brooklyn she & I used to go to work together every morning. I moved to SI before she moved from 21st St. Her brother Joey lives on SI (or used to) – I haven’t bunked into him in a very long time. Give her this site – I’d love to reconnect with her. You also mentioned Frank (the son) the Butcher. Who was your husband? I’d probably remember the name, but maybe not the face. My parents were very good friends w/Frank & Stella. (My mother was Mary – the crossing-guard on 6th Ave. & 21st St and my father, Phil, used to hang out in St. Anna’s club) Frankie lives on SI and works for Top Tomato on Amboy Rd. I do see him on occasion.
Annie Lentini – hi! how are you and how’s Vera doing?? Does she still live on 22nd St. or did you (or your sisters) convince her that either SI or NJ was a better place to live??
I’m a little slow on the uptake here – but sometime in July Terry mentioned my cousin Marie Cirillo. She didn’t marry an Aversano, she married Mike Albano, who had 7 brothers (including 2 sets of twins, Mike and his twin Nick – who were both active in St. Rocco’s Drum & Bugle Corp. – and younger twin brothers Tom & John who grew up on LI). Marie is well and lives on Long Island (since she got married – 30 years ago) and just became a grandmother for the first time. And, for any of the slightly “older” crew on this great site, Marie’s brother is Charles Cirillo (or Charlie!!)
Well, I’ve got to get back to work but I’ll try to get on more often. I love it! We had a good time growing up, didn’t we?
Karen

Hello everyone it has been awhile since I have posted. Great to see all the new attendees to this site. Names are all familiar and the stories are PRICELESS.
Rocco and Clara great to read your posts. Hope you both are doing well. Say hi to Millie for me. I remember when I was on a cruise with your mom and dad. I was walking toward the pool and saw Rocco huddled by the pool with all these older ladies. By the time I got to where they were, all the ladies put their hands to their mouths as if they were in shock. I said to myself “God knows what Rocco just told those ladies” Rocco walked away and I thought that I should probably go and apologize for what he might have said. As I started to apologize they looked at me like I was crazy. They stopped me and said “why are you apologizing he is so funny we want to sit at your table for dinner. Classic Rocco, even made strangers want to hang with him.
Tillie say hello to you husband and mom for me.
Anthony Gags how are you. I run into your sisters Pat and Terri from time to time on Staten Island.
Take care everyone.
I’m still lookign for the Patty Negrie.. Anyone know where she is?
Terry
Thank you so much for going through the trouble of getting the CD we really appreciate it so much! Donn’t know if we will be able to make it to the reunion but we both live in staten island so I’m sure we can work something out. Once again thank you it means alot to us! I think you go to the same church as my mom and I live in Bay Terrace so we are probably close by.
Hi Anthony,
Sorry to hear about Jeanne. Patty is in Arizona, I will sent her this website. What a site, the names are all familiar. Got to run.
Anthony (Caroline Negri’s son)
CLARA,
WHAT CHURCH DOES SHE GO TO YOUR MOM? I GO TO ST. CHARLES IN OAKWOOD. I LIVE RIGHT OFF OF GUYON AVENUE. I DID NOT GET THE CD YET. RALPHIE WAS READING THE SITE AND HE CALLED TO TELL ME HE HAS A COPY. I THINK MY SON IS GOING TO COPY IT, BURN IT WHATEVER. I HAVE TO GET IT FROM RALPHIE IT IS HIS ONLY COPY SO AS SOON AS WE MEET AFTER 30 SOMETHING YEARS I WILL LET YOU KNOW. EMAIL ME YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS JUST IN CASE THIS SITE GETS CUT OFF AFTER THE 1000 COMMENT. TERRY
KarenD: not sure you remember us (my sisters and I: The Freeman girls from 20th between 6th &7th) we totally loved your Mom… Mary the crossing guard was a ray of sunshine in the morning (at lunch for those of us who went home for lunch — only 30 minutes remember that !) and in the afternoon. I remember she always had a smile on her face (rain, snow, whatever the weather).
Debbie Bonavita… wow names from the past — my sisters and I loved your parents, and you guys as well. I loved coming to your house it was such a happy home (my memory of you and your family, all good ones). Not sure you remember but at one time your Dad (If I remember correctly) was the President of the PTA and my Dad was the Vice President and I do remember them being friends at one point.
Gina Pugliese… I think I went to school with her brother, I think he was in my grade and Gina was in my older sisters (Linda’s grade)
Lori.. I am trying to get her on this site but she has been crazy busy this week. She is going to freak out when she starts to read.
The Venturelli’s — anyone hear from them. Josephine and I both graduated from St John’s and John Jay together.
This site is worse than my blackberry….
Festina… still waiting to hear from you.. looking forward to it.
CELEBRATING
Just got back from my oncologist and he said I’m doing
very well and we can CELEBRATE my 5-Year “Remission
Anniversary†this month. Thank God! (I celebrate every day.)
Are there any other cancer survivor Park-Slopians out there?
Anyone needing support?
Debbie S, I know you are a “longer-time survivor†than I am;
and I thank you for being there for me with your supportive
words and encouragement. They meant more than you know.
I always took your prayer copies with me to chemotherapy,
and they helped me through it. I never forgot that. Bless You!
I’m glad to see your writing on the site, and I’m glad I’m here
to read it.
what reunion? reading past comments on this site is like reading War & Peace backwards.
Ms. Sherman I demand that you go outside right now and take 10 deep breaths. Your fingers must be aching.
Sorry I didn’t have time to read all the posts, but I do remember certain ones and I would like to respond to them:
To Pat Gagliardi! Just wanted to say hi and tell you I remember you fondly from days past! Yes, you slept over my house, even my mom remembers that! Your dad was Sonny, right? How is Clair? And what are you up to these days. Hope all is well.
Sentina, I sent you a private email, but it came back “undeliverable.”
Contact me at [email protected] and I will give you all the info you need to get your mom’s family history, ok? I checked into it with my mom and I understaand we have an aunt alive who has the memory of an elephant. It would be a great help to you.
And the Guzzo here on this site is “Festina.
They used to call me “Tina” back then.
Stay well everyone!
Festina
